Brother MFC-7340 Status monitor says offline. Scanner works to the computer but it wont print from the computer.
Its a new printer loaded on a vista 32 bit machine.
I have loaded the disc software, tried the latest drivers from brother and the usb specific drivers.
I can copy and print at the machine so I think it is printer driver related.

The solution, and it took me a long time to find the simple solution, is to right click on your printer, click properties, click the ports tab and click on your Brother printer and click on configure port (or you can delete the existing one and then add another one). What you want to do is update the IP Address. The problem is that the printer does not have a static IP address, it is dynamic. If you want to confirm that, go to your printer and press the reports button and print out the network configuration report. Your IP address will show on that. It's really the last digit in the IP address that changes. This will absolutely solve your problem. Good Luck!

SOURCE: BROTHER MFC-7340 DRUM ERROR PROBLEM
Commonly caused by High voltage discharge or arcing from a dirty primary charger corona and grid.
You need to clean your drum unit.
Open the front door and pull out the Drum unit.
Look on top of it for a small (usually) blue slider, sitting in a 10mm slot that runs the length of the Drum unit. This is the corona cleaner.
Slide this back and forth about 6 times, ensuring you return it to the original starting position.
Reinstall the Drum unit and try printing.....
