After attempting to update my Magellan 4040 with the new firmware 2.36 I was told my problem was that I needed to format my new SD card before I could update. I did that and once again attempted to update my 4040 now my Magellan screen has nothing but the Logo and a full black bar across the bottom. When I try to download the firmware I do not get the SD problem anymore but it says MAESTRO 40X0 can not be found. I just don't known what to do next. I have attempted contacting Magellan but they don't even answer their phones let alone answer EMAIL they appear to have gone on vacation.
Try to press the reset button on the left side next to the usb port with a small paper clip or toothpick and see what happens and chk on the magellan website to see for firmware update if it is do it and plug in powersupply and the usb and leave it alone and let it reset a few times until it says to unplug from the usb .also make sure it has a flash sd card in it so you do not lose your addresses.let me know what happens.

I tried all the suggested fixes but still no results. Magellan finally contacted me and agreed it was there problem and the unit has been sent back to them for repair.
Thanks for all your efforts

I just experienced the same problem: after updating to v2.62 (v3.61) twice and restarted, all there is is a black progress bar. I do find that if I press the power on button while holding the reset pin, a boot menu comes up. But I don't know what to do with it.
Same problem. Magellen 4040 will not download at all. Maps show up blank. Will try again, and then go buy a gramin.
