Heeeellllllpppppp! I'm getting very frustrated. I have the 80 gb unit. I'm simply trying to play my PS3 online using a wireless router but it won't allow me to download the latest updates. It's saying, "an error occurred during the download operation." A connection to the server cannot be established (80710723)." The only thing is that my "setting list" is telling me everything is ready. For an Example it says, Internet connection-Enable Connection Method-Wirless SSID-belkin54g Security-none (maybe this is the problem,I'm saying this) Address settings-Automatically IP Adress-Automatically Subnet Mask-Automatically Default Router-Automatically Primary DNS-Automatically Secondary DNS-Automatically mtu-Automatically Proxy server-Do not use UPNP Test Connection obtain IP address -succeeded Internet connection succeeded

Is your PS3 wireless ?
If it is wireless them make sure that it is connected to the wireless network.
You may also need to open some ports on the router.

Well connecting to your router is simply a matter of joining your wireless network. When you try and connect to the PS3 the router will automatically route your traffic to the PS3. The real question is does a PS3 support SMB or CIFS (file sharing protocols) that windows will understand. If it does just enable them on the PS3. Then in Windows open up "Computer" and click "Map a Network Drive", select a drive letter to map to on your local computer and for an address it will be in the form \\<PS3 hostname>\<share name>

If it won't play online what you'll need to do is set a static ip in your router for your ps3 and then open ports TCP Ports: 80, 443, 5223, and 10070 - 10080
UDP Ports: 3478, 3479, 3658, and 10070 (you'll need to contact your router about that)

If it won't play AT ALL follow these steps ( http://us.playstation.com/support/answer/index.htm?a_id=1488 ) to get into safe mode and select option 3.

If NONE of your PS3 games work and NONE of your blu rays work, your blu ray drive is fried and you'll need to get it fixed. You can go to: us.playstation.com/getservice to get it fixed.

One Surefire WayThe only way how to play PS2 games on PS3 is to have the correct version of the console. Either your Playstation 3 can play PS and PS2 games or it can’t, and there’s not much to do about it. Most of the PS3 models simply cannot play older titles as they lack the necessary hardware and firmware. However, a few models do have backwards compatibility. The 20 Gb, 60 Gb, and original 80 Gb models all have backwards compatibility, either through hardware or software emulation. The other models lack backwards compatibility, so even knowing how to play PS2 games on PS3 won’t help you out much here.
However, if you do have the correct console model, then there isn’t much to know for learning how to play PS2 games on PS3. Simply insert the game CD or DVD (many original Playstation games are also supported thankfully), and the game will start up. Sometimes, it will tell you that you can’t play the game, but simply hook your PS3 up via wireless or ethernet connection and update the firmware (which also provides improved compatibility with newer versions of Blu-ray discs). Learning how to play PS2 games on PS3 is easy, but if you just randomly picked a Playstation 3 model out at your local retailer, you might have a model lacking in backwards compatibility. One reason they didn’t include such compatibility with all models is an issue of cost, as it saved Sony some money to not include such a feature on all of the models. When they first started selling PS3s for $400, they were losing several hundred dollars (although they are at least breaking even now). Unfortunately, both the new 80 Gb and 160 Gb PS3 models are lacking in such compatibility, so you’ll need to find older models to support your older games.

try opening a portal from you router to your ps3, the router will shut down all the things it need to in order to play your games more efficiently. If that doesn't work try hard wireing your ps3 to your router. If your getting online on your ps3 wirelessly then try moving your router or your ps3 closer together.

Yes, using a longer ethernet cord will work, but the PS3 has a bult-in WiFi card that can connect to any wireless router (you can buy a wireless router from a computer store like BestBuy).

If you are going to buy a wireless router, see if a wireless G-mimo or wireless N with signal boost is within your budget. Try looking through the network settings to see if you can connect through the wireless router.

Or just get a longer ethernet cord and run it directly to the PS3 from the router. Ethernet cords are the most reliable connection, granted you are on a good internet connection, they won't get interference from things like mobile phones, cordless phones, microwaves, TV's etc.

The 80 GB model does include wireless connection but there is no 80 GB version on sale in the UK (and the states as far as i know) so thats why it is not listed. there is also a new 40 GB version which will also have wifi. about the code input thing that seems very weird and i suggest using your controller to input the password.
