PS3 is not spinning discs. I tried the system file restore, that did not work for me. I bought and installed a new BD lazer. I tried to play MW2, it started booting the game and then told me I needed to do a system update. So I did the update and now it won't spin discs at all. I have opened it back up and I can see the lazer working but the discs are not spinning. How can I fix this? Or did I get a bad lazer sent to me?

PS3 does not read the discs....

Here's two previous posts with similar problems..

This problem does not mean a disk drive2_bing.gif has broke 90% of the time, the most common issue is the ps32_bing.gif files being corrupt. To solve this problem firstly back up the data on your ps3. Go to system settings> backup and follow the appropriate settings,i advise using a usb stick or hard drive to back up your data.
Secondly under system settings go to restore ps3 and follow instructions. This will erase all the data on your ps3 and restore it to its factory default, this will restore all the original ps3 files, it will basically install the ps3 OS again.
After re- installing the ps3 install the latest updates and try your disk again.
If your ps3 now recognizes a disk go back to system setting> backup, select restore previous back up and all your saved data will be imported from the hard disk. Sony2_bing.gif does state that not all saved data can be imported e.g.copy righted content, however i faced no problems and was able to access all saved data including saved games2_bing.gif when restoring.
If this solution does not work contact song for further assistance, if this solution does not work it is likely to be hardware support, usually the lens that reads the disk, sony will instruct you on who to contact to repair the fault machine. When out of warranty their is usually a cost unless it is recognized manufacturing fault.

I have the now famouss problem myself and reading about it made me realise that there are a lot of people living this hell. I want to make an official list of player having this problem to see the magnitude of it.

The problem beiing: You played mw2 (or another game) with the latess update installed on your ps3 and at some point it froze. tried pressing the PS button but nothing happened. You had to hold the power button to reset it or resolve to switch the back switch off/on. Only to get this same problem over and over again. you can t play blu ray2_bing.gif on your ps3 and/or get the error 80010514. from time to time it will play those blu ray only to start the whole problem again.

your blu ray lens is not dead.. the problem seems to come from another part. It could be a corrupted SOFTWARE/FIRMWARE caused by Sony's 'Online' Updates.

PS3 wont play blue ray or PS3 game discs

Please check the region code on the BD or DVD. It should match the region code set in the system. Otherwise the disc will not play

Ps3 wont reconize any discs after freezing

The error code 80710102 you are getting due to a possible connectivity issue of your PS3, since you have not specified in your problem how are you trying to connect your PS3 to internet so i am unable to assist you on that front

For the problem related to discs not playing is becuase ps3 files being corrupt.

1) First take a back up of your data on PS3 - Go to system settings> backup and follow the appropriate settings,i suggest use a usb stick or hard drive to back up your data.

2) Under system settings go to restore ps3 and follow instructions. This will erase all the data on your ps3 and restore it to its factory default, this will restore all the original ps3 files.

3) Once the PS3 install has completed then try updating your PS3 to latest firmware available, now try playing your discs

4) If your ps3 now plays games and dvds go back to system setting> backup, select restore previous back up and all your saved data will be imported from the hard disk, please note: you may not be able to restore any copyright stuff which you could have purchased.

5) If the above steps do not work, kindly send your PS3 for repairs to Sony Customer Service

Hope This Helps

When i updated my PS3 for the new Call of Duty it stopped reading the disks. It worked fine b4 the upload but now it wont play any of d games i have. Whats d craic, how do i sort this

It might just be coincidence that your blu-ray drive has packed up at the same time as the update. Ring up Sony and tell them this and you could get a new console for free if your in the warranty.

My ps3 just stopped playing video discs and blu ray discs today. help!

Goto settings at the main menu of the ps3, go to the left to settings, then go down to BD/dvd settings go down to BD 1080p 24hz output and disable it.If this doesnt work out for you call up Sony, theyll get you set up with the repair process. before you call them though, be sure to restore system to default settings, because they will ask if youve done that yet.Their number is 800-345-7669 (800-345-SONY)
Sometimes if you get a blu ray disc outside of your region, then it's not supposed to work. If you live in the US, then only Blu Ray movies from the US will work.

Plays ps2 games but doesnt plays ps3 games or dvds

please verify:
  • your dvd disc region (must be region free or 1 - for USA)
about ps3 games try:
  • restoring your system
  • reinstalling all game data files
  • re-updating your system
  • playing blu-ray MOVIES disc, to check a possible problem with your reader .
if the bd movie doesn't work, you have got a possible problem with your bd reader .
then, take it to an assistance center for hardware repair .

I inserted my Friday the 13th Killer Cut bluray into my ps3 and it doesn't read it at all....i put it into my computer and it plays fine? My ps3 is all updated as well....

Please try:
  • running another game bd
  • deleting any game file data (if any)
  1. if another game bd doesn't run, you got a problem with your disk reader (you'll have to buy a new one or take the system to warranty).
  2. if another game bd runs, and deleting the files doens't work, try restoring your system (don't forget to backup all your saved game data !!!)

PS3 Won't Play Blu-Ray

If there is no picture on the TV screen: Back to top
  • Check that the input mode of the TV is appropriate for the connector in use on the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system.
  • There may be a problem with the cable in use. Try using another cable that is compatible with the PLAYSTATION®3.
  • If the video output settings on the PLAYSTATION®3 do not match those of the cable or TV in use, there may be no picture. If the screen goes blank, turn off the system.
  • Then, with only the PLAYSTATION®3 and the TV connected, touch the system's power button for more than 5 seconds to turn the system back on. The video output settings will automatically be reset to the standard resolution.
If the DVD or Blu-ray Disc™ (BD) cannot be played, or the picture is distorted: Back to top
  • When outputting DVD content or PLAYSTATION®3 system format software in SD resolution, only discs recorded in the NTSC standard can be played.
  • If the PLAYSTATION®3 is connected to a VCR or a combination TV/VCR unit, copy protection encoding on some DVDs and BDs may cause image distortion, or may cause the image to become lighter or darker. In such cases, connect the system to the TV directly.
  • If the DVD or BD does not match the region code set in the PLAYSTATION®3, it cannot be played.
  • Some DVDs are preset with parental control restrictions. Enter the password that was set in "Security Settings" to temporarily increase the viewer age restriction level.
  • Some BDs are preset with parental control restrictions. Enter the password that was set in "Security Settings" to change the parental control level.
  • The BD may be disc-locked. Enter the password that was set when the disc was created.
if non of that works you need to contact Sony at
1-800-345-7669 (SONY)

Ps3 not spinning disk

Hello.

When you put in a disc, listen for the disc to start spinning. If you do not hear that then the laser and/or the spindle have blown out. You will have to get your Blu-Ray player serviced by a pro or Sony. Sony may fix it for free. They know that the drives are failing. So call them first. Otherwise the laser assembly needs to be replaced in the BR drive.
I hope this helps! Good luck to you.
