Open up the bobbin area and clean out any lint or thread that may have accumulated.
Thread the machine with the presser foot up.
When changing the position of the fabric (turning a corner or sewing a curved seam, for example), lower the needle into the fabric to prevent the stitch from malformation and tangling with the bobbin thread.
Start sewing by holding onto the thread ends and hand walking the needle into the fabric for one or two stitches.
If this problem continues, the timing may need to be adjusted and this does require a trip to the shop for proper service.
