Where did you get the coil? How did you gap the coil? Reply below please.

This tests the entire system:

You may need to use a jumper wire between the threaded part of the plug and the cooling fins. You do not have to bend up the electrode.

Ignition module gap
Place a business or index card between the fly wheel and coil, rotate until the magnetic attraction pulls everything tight together. Tighten the coil screws, rotate the flywheel until the attraction eases and remove the card. Ensure nothing contacts when flywheel is rotated.

Stihl MMS171 won't start. Can't see any spark on the plug when trying to start it.

hi
first you need to replace the spark plug
if that not works you need to look for any damage to the wire that go from the spark plug to the coil and the wire that go from the coil to the stop switch ( this wires must not touch the metal case of the chainsaw )
if all good looks like you need to replace the coil
sorry for my bad english hope you understand

BROKEN SPARK PLUG IGNITION WIRE

If the lead is broken, depending on which saw it is, you can buy a replacement lead. Unscrew the wire from the ignition module and screw in the new one after you put the end and boot on it. If it doesn't unscrew then you will have to buy a new module

I have a Stihl 025 that I can't seem to start. The two things I have noticed after I took things apart is that there is a grey wire that is not attached to anything, and dosen't seem to have anywhere

Jon try check the wires coming from the ignition coil to the on/off switch. one is a ground and the other goes into the coil. When they are connected the coil is turn off and will not spark.
