This appears to be a commercial unit, in which case if you are using it at home, you probably are using a pot that is too small.

Try a larger pot, you will have to use more water too. This doesn't mean you have to cook rice for 20 people, it means you use a larger pot and more water.

Hi I have Westinghouse Kimberley 509 upright stove with glass top elements, all elements are extremely hot to the point where i cant leave anything to simmer without it burning.

xzy509abc,
eg: PAJ509R or RC?
your model number is not correct. says maker.
well that is normal or the controller is bad.

ask your maker for help, Westinghouse
or call for service.
even my gas stove will burn up a pan on low. this is normal !
the controller does not know the mass of the pan or its contents
only a human knows that, unless you have high end range with thermal sensing, features.???
best it not walk away from pots cooking.
for sure if grease is there. of any kind.

my neighbor lady last month did that and took a shower.
and the pot caught fire and wrecked the whole house with smoke.
walked away, at $50,000 damage and all furniture wrecked for the stink alone. $4000 deductible insurance.

personally I hate electric ranges. never seen on I liked in 50years cooking, GAS is king and you see the heat there and can set it to safer levels, as any cook knows.
now the top answer on the web, 1st google hit.

The dimmer switch has failed, and that is why the other 3 elements are running full tilt, because they are all interconnected.
Replace the faulty element,, fix the dimmer switch (If it is broken, it may just be like that because the 4th element is missing and it is wired up in circuit with the other 3) and you will be good to go.

the elements are bad.
the controller is bad, it is switched levels no true variable
or bad wiring there.

i found your element
1,2,3
high, medium and low, (low as in way to hot) is why we use GAS
it only has 3 heat settings, and is not fine tuned ever.

radiant-undefined-undefined-0.jpg if simmer fails (low) put more in the pot. is the only cure.
or lots of stirring and hand moving pot of element zone back and forth , hard work, and serious attention.
GO gas and win
my gas range has 4 burners each a different size from tiny to huge.
the tiny one is BLISS

What is the difference between a stew and a casserole?

A stew is cooked on a stove or over a fire and a casserole is cooked evenly in an oven. As well, casseroles are cooked either covered or not, while stews are usually covered so they don't evaporate.

Can't simmer

Some models have a hollow stem. Remove the knob and use a sall screwdriver to tweak the flame.

Carbon residue on pots

There is an adjustment for correcting the air mixture on the gas line going from the knob to the burner. It usually is located at the point where the adapter nozzle enters the gas line going to the burner.

I have a Kitchenaide model KGSS907SBL01 gas range. Everything works fine except that we find that the amount of heat generated is disappointing. This seems to come from the fact that the top of the grill...

Hello,
It would seem like reasonable thing to do.However the adjustment is typically for the low setting so you can adjust just the small flame just enough to simmer a pot without the flame going out from being so low its susuptable to going out on the low setting, also it so you can adjust the flame smaller so on low it isnt too high, causing it will boil when you intend to only simmer a dish your cooking. A question;is it all burners and have they always been that way?

When this range was installed the installer removed the natural gas orifices and installed the supplied propane kit. Upon use we discovered that the lowest flame positions for all burners was still quite...

call in a gas fitter as the jets for the propane are probably incorrect.
the jets for lpg and nat gas are different in size and they may not have needed changing at all

Need directions for Comet stove top rice cooker

Fill the bottom to the line with water. Put two cups of rice in the top and two cups of water. Put on stove top on high until lower water is boiling, turn to medium heat. For white rice check after about 20 minutes, if water is assorbed and rice is tender, fluff with a fork...eat. If it needs a few more minutes of cooking, no problem.
Brown rice will take about 45 minutes.
I have used my stove top cooker for at least 35 years...ordered it with box top and some money from Comet Rice.

Simmer is to hot

I am hesitant about answering your question because if the flame is adjusted incorrectly it could be dangerous.
Remove the knob and look inside the stem of the gas valve. You will see a very small adjustment screw. This is where you adjust the flame for the burner.
What I usually do is light the burner and turn it to the lowest setting. Hold the stem in this position and turn the screw. They are usuall kind of stiff to turn.
You want to adjust the flame so that it just comes to the top of the burner cap at the low setting.
This is the important part!!!
When you have got the flame adjusted, put the knob on and turn the flame to high. Quickly turn it from high to low, if the flame goes out, adjust it higher. Repeat this test until you can turn it from high to low quickly and it stay lit.
Also important to remember. When turning the screw, a little turn goes a long way.
Post back if you have any questions.
