My GE Profile stainless steel side by side refrigerator freezer section is making a howling sound. It seems to run hard then run easy really straining at times but it still hold the temp down and works well just the noise drives us crazy.

Your condebser coils may be dirty, whenever i blow them out(outdoors) its amaxing the garbage they collect in the course of moving air through them., compressor may be tired.
It sounds like the condenser is dirty. It's under the refrigerator. This is easy to do. Just get all the dust out of the condenser and things should start cooling down. I hope this helps. Please leave feedback. Thank You.
Might should check the condenser fan in the rear of freezer section. sounds as if it isn't running at its peak performance. May just need replacing. BB
Check the condition of the teflon on the ice maker. You will probably need to replace the ice maker if the teflon is cracking and getting into your ice.
