Connects to desktop without any trouble and connected to laptop the first day I had it. Since then, connection to desktop is fine and connection to a second laptop is fine, but the first laptop will not connect to this router.
The laptop detects the router, but continues to scan and will not connect. The same laptop can connect to my neighbor's unprotected router without any problems
I have the same problem. My laptop will not connect. The laptop is reporting that the connection is there and strong, but it will not connect .I have the same problem. My laptop will not connect. The laptop is reporting that the connection is there and strong, but it will not connect .

Its not a modem its a router. A Modem plugs in to a Telephone line. A Router plugs in to a Broad Band Line. A Modem connects to a RJ11 Cable. A Router Connects to a Coaxial Cabal, the router connects to a computer via wireless or ethernet after that. A Modem connects to a computer using RJ11 or RJ45 Cat4 Ethernet. Very different.
Hi whioch computer has a problem ? A PC with the new hard drive ? Mkae sure that you have the wireless adapter working on the computer. If it is working then try to find the network . Click Here for more info about wireless network.
If you only get disconnected on the desktop, the problem is the desktop.
You can try removing network card from device manager and installing it back, try also logging in with a different user name and disabling eventual firewalls.
Fastest way to get rid of problems of this kind is by reinstalling windows, and if it does not work getting a replacement network card, or connecting the PC wireless.
If you have a spare wireless LAN Usb adapter, try connecting the PC on wireless.
Here are a couple of ideas to look at first, assuming you haven't tried them already:
1) Does moving the router help? Sometimes a new DECT phone or a microwave, or even a piece of equipment at a neighbour's house, can interfere with the signal.
2) Does changing the channel on your router help at all? If there are many other networks using the same channel, this might block your own signal.
3) If this does not make any difference, it might be worth checking your security settings.
Unplug the plug (from phoneline) on back of USB modem, plug into Zoom router. Plug one end of an ethernet cable into router and one end into your PC. Type http://10.0.0.2 into a web browser (eg. Firefox or Internet explorer) username/password is admin/zoomadsl go to basic setup and input your ISP username and password (the one given to you by your internet provider) under PPP. Click configure my connection. Save changes and then write to flash (both buttons on bottom of page)
you need a ethernet network card, if you want it connected to the x6 directly, or you can get a wireless card for the desktop.
the instruction for setup the x6 is straightforward. but you need to follow it to the letter, otherwise it won't work.
Your modem is what connects you to the internet, your Mac airport is a router...One of the quirks about Apple's AirPort Base Stations is that they are routers, but not modems. As a quick refresher: a router enables you to create a network that connects various devices together (Macs, iPhones, iPads, hard drives, printers and so on); whereas a modem connects your network to the wider internet.
I may be able to help with this...but I need a detailed description of how you have things connected between the XP desktop, the cable, modem, the Linksys router, and the laptop. Also, is the Linksys router new?
Typically, the wan port on the wireless router connects directly to the cable modem with a cat5 network cable....then the desktop pc connects to the router...on port 1 for example...with a similar cable. Once the wireless router is set up properly, the laptop should then be able to connect using wireless.
The wireless is disabled either on your laptop or on modem. Here is quick guide of your modem that may help if it does not please let me know where is the problem and tell me what laptop do you have.
can't sign on laptop
