My camera keeps saying 'pictures will be recorded to built in memory' even when the SD card is in the camera. Sometimes if I manually push the card in a little further and hold it, the camera will take them to the card. Suggestions?
I tried cleaning the contacts on the card. It did not make a difference. I cannot get into the tiny slot to clean the contacts in the camera though.
I forgot to mention that the card that does not work in my camera works in my computer SD card reader.
I tried another card in my camera and it works. But I would like to try to get both to work (the one that doesn't work holds a lot more than the one that works...)I tried cleaning the contacts on the card. It did not make a difference. I realize this is far from a solution, but for what it's worth...
Personally, given how much memory cards (don't) cost, I wouldn't go to extremes trying to use a possibly flaky card. If it works fine in another camera, or picture frame, or MP3 player, or whatever, fine, use it for that. My pictures are too valuable, and I wouldn't go out the door without at least two memory cards I trust.I realize this is far from a solution, but for what it's worth...

Try cleaning the contacts on the card. Cleaning the contacts inside the card slot is a bit harder, do it if you can. Try another card if you have one.

Are you sure that isn't "internal" memory card is full message?
Sometimes, when "internal
memory card is full" there is no more space in the camera's internal
memory. Your camera has 16 MB of internal memory. The number of pictures
you can store depends on the picture size setting you have selected on
your camera. Keep in mind that the
camera always uses internal memory, even if a card is installed (auto default).
If really, the problem is in the "SD memory card", I suggest make some backup all files and reformat the SD. Try formatting it in the camera, there should be a process in your owners manual for doing this; donw formatted SD in your computer, isn't good.
From the user manual for this camera (click here) page 247, it says "Memory is full. If you want to record more files, delete files that you no longer need" and references page 161 in the same manual.
On page 161, it gives you the directions for deleting un-needed files (pictures).
I would suggest transferring all of your pictures to a computer using Picasa and deleting the pictures that you've taken from the camera.
If you're using the memory that is built-in to the camera, it is much too small to hold many pictures. You should buy a 2GB SD card that meets the specifications in the user manual page 180.
The card is most likely an SD card which has a lock on the side of it to protect pictures from deletion sometimes this switch gets pushed in the wrong direction. I'm including a "generic" picture/diagram of this switch.
Also you will need to format the memory card before it will work properly and be totally compatible with the camera you will need to look in your camera manual for this information. You didn't give me the model of the camera or I would have been able to direct your to the correct page. Once the memory card has been formatted everything should work just fine.
Usually when you take pictures using NO SD card you can't take the picture, however in this case the pictures you took are stored in a memory bank temp only to test the picture your actually taking. In the manual what's the size of the built in memory card? Usually it's small amount of memory built in
I have the same camera, save the colour (black). As soon as I read your post, an alarm went off.
I decided to re-check my User Guide (PDF Eng version, page16), for the Lumix DMC-FZ30:
•On this unit, you can use SD Memory Cards of the following capacity (from 8 MB to 2 GB).
Please confirm the latest information on the following website:
http://panasonic.co.jp/pavc/global/cs
(This Site is English only.)
• This unit supports SD Memory Cards formatted in FAT12 system and FAT16 system based on SD Memory Card Specifications.
• This unit does not support MultiMediaCard for recording motion pictures.
• The reading/writing speed of a MultiMediaCard is slower than an SD Memory Card. When a MultiMediaCard is used, the performance of certain features may be slightly slower than advertised.
• After recording motion pictures using the MultiMediaCard, the card access indication may appear for a while, but this is not a malfunction.
• Keep the Memory Card out of reach of children to prevent swallowing.
8MB, 16MB, 32MB, 64MB, 128MB, 256MB, 512MB, 1GB, 2GB (Maximum)
