Caller ID not working

Hi,
My phone doesn't displat caller ID. I have got Caller ID activated through my vendor BSNL, India. I verified that it works with other handset that vendor provided but my panasonic KX-TG1032S doesn't display caller ID. It always say "Incoming Call". Could you guide me how to get number. Manual says no setting required except activation of service from vendor (which is active now).

Is it really to do with US using FSK protocol while other countries like India using DTMF? Since, my phone doesn't have/throw option of moving between these protocols.. what shall I do. Also, why then other models from Panasonic displays in India.

I tried connecting directly to the line. Didn't help. I have a DSL connection so I have an ADSL splitter. I connect the handset provided by vendor, it still displayed CALLER ID. But panasonic equipment didn't in any case.

I agree that manual says to apply filter. But just wondering how come other handsets are displaying caller ID without filter in same configuration.

Now, I am really wondering if I need to put DTMF-FSK converter to check :(

Hi,

I don't think the problem is the FSK vs. DTMF. The manual even states that the caller ID is generally received after the second ring. This is true in America. I lived in India for four months and I never ran into the problem there so... I just can't say how your provider sends the caller ID. It may be that the line is being interfered with. Do you have a DSL line attached to the same device. If so make sure that there is a filter between you phone and its connection.

I am assuming that you tested your line with the other equipment connected to the same location. You may want to reduce the problem to the simplest configuration by connecting directly to the line only no other equipment. If it works add the other equipment until the caller ID stops again. Then you know what is interfering. If you have a monitor set you could listen to the DTMF being sent make sure it is coming between the first and second ring. It is audible if it is there. If you are answering on the first ring you will not see caller ID you have to wait till after the second ring then you should see it, If BSNL is sending the same as American systems. Good luck Z

Hi, sorry I have limited access to the Internet right now. I would suggest finding out exactly how you get Caller ID with the other equipment. If it shows, in the display, the caller ID on the first ring or even before the instrument begins to ring then that is FSK. That is the benifit of FSK over DTMF. If it is seen between the first and second ring then it is usually DTMF. If you pick up the phone fast enough you can hear the DTMF as it comes between the ring cycles.

You could try this unit on another line if you know someone that has caller ID. If you have any way of monitoring the line to hear the DTMF then you could be positive as to when it is coming. If at all. Most phone companies won't send both.

A DSL line that doesn't have a filter will make a data noise at a higher frequency that can distort the DTMF tones. It is also an audible sound so you might hear it during phone conversations, when you are downloading something, or sending requests to the internet. More than likely if you don't have a filter, on the phone that you use, it will be heard just by requesting a page while you are on the phone.

It may be that you have a defective phone?

Caller ID is not working

Hello Samiran mandal, here is a solution.I purchased one cordless telephone (Siemens Gigaset) in Germany. I also had the same problem, caller-id did not work. I purchased this telephone because we can set different ringtones for different caller groups. But, if caller-id doesn't work, this feature also doesn't work. I had gone through internet and finally found that CA electronics, Bangalore has it and got it through courier (I live in Pondicherry). It worked flawlessly for two years. Then it stopped working. For 'no reason' I ordered for a 'caller-id' unit on ebay for Rs.75/- (+ Rs.75 shipping). I just got the unit and fixed it to my line. Very very surprisingly, my cordless telephone is now showing caller info. This is a real surprise to me. By the way, caller-id unit is "Eurotel" make, DTMF/FSK caller-id. I feel this is very nice solution. The 'caller-id' unit is nice (backlit display) and also there is no need of converter for using the caller-id feature of your foreign telephone. I connected caller-id between the line and telephone. That's all. Enjoy.

Seimens Gigaset AL285 BSNL caller ID not working

The source of my caller ID not displaying was a faulty ADSL filter.
For some reason my ADSL filter blocked the caller id information - but worked fine otherwise.
When I changed the filter the caller ID worked fine again.

My uniden phone bought in USA does not display called ID thouhgh BSNL has enabled it. My cheap chinese phone was displaying it. Any help?

Caller ID standards are different in India and the USA, so Caller ID function will not work. You need to purchase a converter which converts from DTMF to Bell FSK standard.

Caller id function does not work

Hi
I had the same problem
I learnt that in India DTMF is used while in US it is FSK for Caller ID`s.
Get a EX220 converter and put it in between your Tel and system

Caller id not working

US phones use Bellcore FSK caller id. India uses DTMF caller id. Buy a DTMF- FSK converter at a telecom shop.

Caller ID not working in India

I too purchased an Uniden phone for India. Everything except the caller ID works fine. The caller ID wont work as the technology used in India is different. Try purchasing a FSK to DTMF converter or a separate caller ID box.

CALLER ID NOT WORKING

not only Panasonic, most other brand phones imported from other countries wont work in in India ( caller ID). Panasonic phones of Panasonic India, will work.I think panasonic has to explain this. if there are networks which does not support this equipment, atleast they should mention this is their booklets, to avoid users roam around telecom offices. To my understanding, all the land phones of BSNL through out India are caller ID enabled by default and is free!.

Caller id

Caller ID in the USA uses the FSK standard. For the most part, caller ID in India uses DTMF (although I have heard of some FSK usage).

I am currently living in New Delhi and have an Airtel home phone line. My switch uses DTMF. I went to the Palika electronics bazaar (I aways use shop number 266 near gate 5, they seem to be a little kinder to foreigners as far as the "final price") and purchased an DTMF to FSK convertor. My US phones now show caller ID information, although using US number seperations ### - ### - ####. I paid R500 but you could probably get it for around R400 if you are willing to put in the time bargaining. It looks like they are also available on Indian Ebay.

Mine says UST001B. It looks like these are low volume items because they stuck the components into a box marked "DSL Splitter" It works to convert the caller ID as advertised.
