Not sure, but one possibility is that your paper you are copying is not all the way to the edge of the copier. If there is a crack along the edge where light from the room can get in it will show up black in those areas. You will see the same effect if you leave the top of the copier off and try to copy something. There could also be something wrong with the scanner arm preventing it from moving all the way to the edge of the window.
what is the status of print job in the queue? whether it is showing printing or no status in the windows. if the status is printing you delete all the print jobs and switch off and on .then try print something. if no status is there in the windows then you check whether the printer is off line .try make it online by right click on the printer icon then click on the use printer online.

Some of these machines will allow you to printe a grey scale test copy.
This will readjust the fax machine back to a nominal mode.
Not knowing how old or how long the machine has been serviced, background can be caused by dirty optics somewhere in the machine.
A remanufactured drum unit can cause this type of problem, (defective unit)
Competitive toner in the toner unit can cause poor copy quality.
Reinstall the old cartrige and see if the problem changes.
Not knowing if the machine has a seperate drum unit and developer housing, it would be hard to answer anything else.
Try this: Using the Guide for the software (don't you have an icon for the guide on your desktop?) select the "printing" troubleshooting option. It should show the steps to cleaning the print heads and how to do a nozzle check. It is really easy to do both, just click where it reads "clean print heads" and "nozzle check." I'm not positive this is the solution to your problem but it is worth a try--better than trying to get anything out of Epson's tech support. (Good luck with that!) I hope this does help.
the fuser unit has ceased to heat...it has a bad heater. the fuser is a hollow metal roller that usually has a powerful light inside to heat the metal. a continuity test can detect
