Right now the printer prints a single straight vertical black line down the center of the page
along with what is supposed to be printed. How do I get rid of the black line.

I was getting a verticle black line and I had to clean the glass, the long white bar above the glass, and the white and black rollers before my problem was solved.

If it is along the edge of the print, it may be the edge of the book page you are seeing. if it is going through the text of the page, your scan carriage is likely skipping. If you don't see this on copies of single sheets of paper laid on the glass, then the weight of the book may be deforming the glass enough to catch the scan carriage as it passes. If you see it on single copied sheets, there is probably something on one of the scan rails under the glass that the carriage is "hopping" over as it passes. You could try watching the scan carriage move while holding the lid open to see if the carriage "hops" once during a scan.
Remove cartridge observe on cartridge drum finds any vertical toner line? replace cartridge, as well as check all cartridges same manner...if found replace them..If its only on copying: clean flat bed both glasses..with glass cleaner..
Try the 6500 driver. I have seen that allow text print but no graphics. If line disappears, reinstall 7680 driver. If line comes back, contact HP about updated drivers, check their website OR try to get your money back. I have never had luck with this series of AIO. Good luck.
first, the line are in all printing pages, or only when you make copies?, if the line are in all printing pages, maybe your fuser has damage the fuser film sleeve,(aprox, 10-20 dlls), if only this line are when you make copies, maybe the glass in the scanner are dirty(clean and try). i expect this solution your problem
If the line runs the way that the paper does I.E. vertical on a portrait then it is dirty rollers normally. If you open the lid and wipe the rollers this shoukd reduce or eliminate the black lines.
Vertical lines or streaks
Check for a leak where light might be entering the printer.
Check for circumferential scars on the photosensitive drum. If scars are present, replace the
drum cartridge if the line goes through all colors.
Check for circumferential scars on the upper fusing roller. If scars are present, replace the upper
fusing roller if the line goes through all colors.
Remove the imaging drum and inspect main charger or imaging drum for a contaminant, such as
a fiber, if the line goes through all colors.
CAUTION Do not expose the imaging drum to light for more than 15 seconds. The drum is light sensitive, and
exposure to light can cause permanent damage.
Vertical black lines
The toner cartridge is defective.
The toner cartridge is not seated properly.
The fuser entrance is dirty.
The fuser has scratches on it.
This might be a repetitive defect. If so, the lines will repeat at a consistent interval down the page.
The printer needs to be cleaned.
There is a problem in the heating element.
Vertical white lines
If white lines or streaks appear only in the black areas of the printed media, print several
configuration pages to clear the anomaly. If this does not clear the problem, check the sleeve
surface to confirm the defect, then replace the black toner cartridge.
If white lines appear only in a particular color, try printing several configuration pages to clear the
error. If the error does not clear, check the sleeve surface to confirm the defect, then replace the
defective toner cartridge.
There is a lack of toner or the toner cartridge is faulty.
There is dirt in the laser path.
The fuser is defective.
A mirror in the laser scanner is dirty.
Was this happening before you swapped toner? Is there toner streaks on the drum? Yes? Defective. What if you stop the printer (open cover) as it passes through the fuser to determine if image is from drum or fuser? But really....isn't it time to move on anyway???
I have the same problem for a few weeks now.
Just fixed it! It was a heavy smudge on the glass where it "reads"
