I have just had to sync the Wii balance board to the console and when I switch back on I keep getting the message to step off the balance board and this will not reset, even though I am not standing on the board. Thanks Geoff

1. You need to put Balance Board compatible game disk in the console. 2. Select Disk Chanell and press Start 3. Remove SD Card slot cover on the console and the battery cover on the Balance Board 4. Press and hold for 2-5 sec the SYNC button on the Balance board. You will see a blinking light. 5. Press the Sync button on the Wii console and after a while you will get non-blinking light.
This will mean that your device is synchronized and you are able to use your Balance Board.
Good Luck! Don't forget to close back the covers you've removed earlier.
If you haven't already tried to replace the batteries, do this (if you have, this is useful information to include in your problem description :D). If that hasn't worked, you may need to re-sync the board with your Wii.
1. Power on your Wii console (there is no need to power on your balance board at this time).
2. Open the SD card slot cover on the front face of your Wii to reveal the red Sync button on the Wii.
3. On the bottom of your balance board, remove the battery cover to reveal the red Sync button on the balance board.
4. Press the Sync button on the balance board (there is no need to keep it depressed; simply press and release). You will notice the power LED on the power button on the balance board blinking.
5. Now press (and release) the Sync button on the Wii console. After the LED stops blinking, the Sync is complete.
If this does not fix your balance board, it may need to be repaired or replaced. Contact Nintendo and provide warranty information if applicable.
Good luck!
Synching can be completed only if a compatible game disc is running in the console. Compatible game discs (such as Wii Fit) will display the Wii Balance Board icon on their packaging. The Wii Balance Board must be synced to each compatible game individually. These sync settings will be saved even after the console is turned off.
Follow these directions to sync the Wii Balance Board (so that it is recognized by the Wii console):
Insert a Wii Balance Board compatible game disc (such as Wii Fit) in the Wii console.
Use the Wii Remote to select the Disc Channel from the Wii Menu, then select "Start" to begin the game.
Open the SD Card slot cover on the front of the Wii console.
Remove the Battery Cover on the bottom of the Wii Balance Board.
Press and release the SYNC button on the Wii Balance Board. The Power LED on the board will start blinking.
Press and release the SYNC button on the console while the Power LED on the board is still blinking.
The Power LED will stop blinking and light steadily once the synchronization is complete.
Put four AA batteries into the battery housing located on the underside of the Wii Balance Board.
Insert a Wii Balance Board compatible game into the Wii system.
Select the "Disc Channel" on the screen with the Wii remote, and choose "Start."
Open the SD card slot to reveal a sync button on the Wii system. This is located behind a cover under the power and eject buttons.
Turn the Wii Balance Board upside down.
Remove the battery cover under the balance board to reveal another sync button.
Pres the sync button on the balance board, then press the sync button on the Wii. Do not hold down the buttons. You know it is synchronized when the blue light on the Wii Balance Board stays steady
Place the board on a flat surface directly in front of the TV. Face the power button away from the TV.
Looked around for a solution for a long time for this one.
1) removing the batteries from the Wii Fit balance
board for at least a minute.
2) Turn the Wii OFF by pressing the POWER Button on the
front of the console. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet for a
few seconds. After a few seconds plug the cord back into
the outlet.
2 Turn the power of the Wii console ON. When
you see the Health and Safety screen, open the small flap on the front
of the Wii console to find a red button labeled "SYNC." Press and hold
the SYNC Button down for 15 seconds. This should clear all the old syncs on
the Wii.
3 After holding the SYNC Button on the Wii console down for at least 15 seconds, you can now "re-sync" your Wii Remotes:
a
With the first Wii Remote you wish to sync, remove the battery cover on
the back of the Wii Remote to find a small red button just below the
batteries.
b Press and release the small red button just below
the batteries on the Wii Remote; the blue lights on the front of the
Wii Remote will turn on.
c Quickly press and release the red SYNC button on the inside of the white flap on the front of the Wii console.
d
When the Player LED blinking stops and stays lit, the syncing is
complete. The LED that is illuminated indicates the player number (1
through 4).
4 Start the game from the Wii Menu, don't forget to sync the Wii Balance Board from the opening screen of the game (you've deleted the syncs earlier).
Another problem may be the surface on which you post the Wii fit, make sure it's flat, try put it on the floor directly or place it on a rug.
And don't forget to "step on" it when it says and not before as the Wii console might be "overloaded".
Here you have different procedures on what to do if you get that error message. Please get back to me if nothing works.
The exact procedure is:
• Even if the battery level is strong, try the following:
Remove the batteries in the Wii Fit Board for at least 1 minute…… better 15
Try these steps!
1
Turn the Wii console power OFF by pressing the POWER Button on the
front of the console. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet for a
few seconds. After a few seconds have elapsed, plug the cord back into
the wall outlet.
2 Turn the power of the Wii console ON. When
you see the Health and Safety screen, open the small flap on the front
of the Wii console to find a red button labeled "SYNC." Press and hold
the SYNC Button down for 15 seconds. This will clear all the syncs on
the Wii, allowing you to get a clean start to begin the process
described below.
3 After holding the SYNC Button on the Wii console down for at least 15 seconds, you can now "re-sync" your Wii Remotes:
a
With the first Wii Remote you wish to sync, remove the battery cover on
the back of the Wii Remote to find a small red button just below the
batteries.
b Press and release the small red button just below
the batteries on the Wii Remote; the blue lights on the front of the
Wii Remote will blink.
c Quickly press and release the red SYNC button on the inside of the white flap on the front of the Wii console (picture).
d
When the Player LED blinking stops and stays lit, the syncing is
complete. The LED that is illuminated indicates the player number (1
through 4).
4 Start the game from the Wii Menu, then sync the Wii Balance Board from the opening screen of the game.
Insert a Wii Balance Board compatible game disc in the Wii console.
Use
the Wii Remote to select the Disc Channel from the Wii Menu, then
select "Start" to begin the game. Press the A Button to bypass the
wrist strap screen.
Open the small SD Card slot cover on the front of the Wii console.
Remove the Battery Cover on the bottom of the Wii Balance Board.
Press and release the SYNC button on the Wii Balance Board. The blue light on the board will start blinking.
Press and release the red SYNC button on the Wii console while the blue light on the board is still blinking.
The blue light will stop blinking and stay on steady once the syncronization is complete.

When you are prompted to press the sync buttons you just have to press and release just once the sync button on the console and then on the board. Do not hold the buttons in because you just end up un syncing everything!
I know it's been a while since you have posted and have prob already figured it out. But just in case this may help someone else. Try turning off your wii and unplugging from the power source for a few minutes. The plug back in and turn on. At the initial warning screen press and hold the sync button on the wii console for about 4 sec. You will have to resync your wii remotes. Next make sure the disc for the game you are going to use the balance board with is in the system and start the game. Then try to sync the balance board.
