The A100 has some features that the A90 doesn't, but it costs more. It depends on whether those features are worth the extra price. I'd personally be happy with either one.
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ).
An A90 error means that there is a electrical fault on the main printed circuit board, and can only be repaired by sending the camera in for repair through your Pentax dealer.
I hope that your question has been answered to your satisfaction.
With kind regards,
my sugesstion is after reading this go to your pentax supplier and ask them for a investigation repair (the don't repair yet but investigate what is defect and how much the repair costs would be (normaly is that you pay a amount of money and mostly it is deducted from the repair bill if you decide to let it be fixt. (ask them if they would act so , otherwhise sue them for a not good product)
A- I have a Pentax Opio S
hence I had to get the "fwdc110p.bin" file here:
http://www.badongo.com/file/707791
B- Drop this file on your SD Card at the root directory (same level as
DCIM folder) or as described by the following link and then close your camera
to OFF:
Attention: Do not load this file yet onto the camera i.e. the menu+power on
procedure, follow step C first... Important!!!Insert
a fully charged battery or connect to an external power source.
C- Open the now infamous "Secret Menu" in order to re-initialize your
camera prior to re-installing the new firm ware: Simultaneously press MENU +
Flash symbol button + Power
ON...a white screen with data
written in black should show.
Then a sequence of buttons must be pressed: 2 times the focus button
(flower, mountain, MF symbols button) followed by 2 toggles to the
Right of the "OK" button...then press MENU once and voile...the
Secret Menu appears!
Using the down toggle of the OK button, go to ROM UPDATE then go down to
"SYSTEM INITIAL" and press OK. Press another OK to
re-initialize your camera.
Once this has been completed, turn your camera off.
D- Load the firm ware by opening your camera with the MENU+Power ON
procedure...finally this should be posting "Complete" after the
"Loading" message, instead of the "Error!" that we
initially kept on having.
Your camera should be working perfectly! Only thing is that you will have
to redo your personal settings on it from scratch...but hey, this is much
better than to wait for months to get your camera back from Pentax and save
that money for your next photogenic trip!
