My PT-53TW53 projection tv picture recently changed like a horizontal hour glass - the picture on the right and left side appear larger or closer and distorted while the picture in the middle appears good but set back. Attempted convergence but no luck; the vertical lines on the outside edges of the "+" symbol are not straight. Do you know what the problem is and how to fix it?

Sound like you have to turn down the G2 (screen)controls. They are turned up too high.

The RCA P52960 uses the PTK195 series chassis. There are 2 main boards at the bottom of the set and above the board on the right (when viewed from behind) is the convergence power supply board. This board usually has a big black IC on it, labeled STK730-010 and bolted to a metal heat sink. Chances are, that IC has burned out and stopped working. Replacing that IC should restore your convergence. If you do not have experience replacing IC's in projection sets, allow a qualified tech to handle it for you.

I am sorry, I don't have a solution. I have the same issue. I replaced the two chips, but I still get double images with green shadow. It is not that bad and I can live with it, but is there anything I can do to fix that also? Does it have anything to do with my soldering? Or is there any bad resistors? TV works fine with a little bit of adouble image with green shadow.
Any suggestions? Thanks,
