I have a samsung LCD
lns4692d, and the picture no longer comes up on the screen, i can go
through multiple sources get sound but no picture. Usually when you
change sources there will be a source name on the screen which does not
show up anymore. The LCD is backlight, and you can see when you change
channels or sources it flashes, but never a picture. Based on other
comments I have taken the back panel of the lcd tv, everyone else who
had this issues states this to be a issue with tcon (timing controll
board) /lcd controller board. Is this the same board where the audio video
sources, antennae and cable plug into?

I have LNS4692D. Returned from vacation, turned tv on - no picture. Tried turning tv off for 4 hours- nothing. Symptoms are: tv is on - no picture , just sound; menu doesn't show, volume bar doesn't show;E.Saving is working - the backlight is changing from lighter to darker.
Found this website and ordered T-con, otherwise known as the LCD panel driver board, p/n# Bn8101286a ( thanks premtech) from partstore.com for $124. Part number BN81-01286A A/S T-CON Board.
Installation:
1.Remove plastic cover. There is an arrow for each screw that needs to be removed. Make sure to unscrew pins next to VGA port. I've spent some time trying to figure out what else is holding the plastic panel until I found this pins.
2. Remove big metal shield in the middle of tv that is covering main components. This shield is being held by small black screws all around it.
At this point you will see cover of T-CON. Here is the picture

3.Remove metal panel that holds main components. Locate big chrome screws that have arrows pointing to them and unscrew them. Remove 2 more screws on the bottom of the panel that holds it together with a box for cables. At this point the main panel will be lose
4. Carefully start lifting the panel. You will see that there are connectors going from components on the panel to components on the lower panel and T-CON. Carefully unplug these components and raise the main panel.
5. Remove 4 screws that holds T-CON cover. Pull the cover so that T-CON is completely exposed. The cover is connected by thin alluminum , don't hesitate to pull it , but don't rip it out.
6. Once T-CON is exposed you will see 2 red ribbons. I've spent some time to figure out how unplug those from old T-CON board. Here is the suggestion. Don't try to pull it out. All you need to do is to lift small plastic lever that is part of a connector. Then ribbon can be slided out. If not sure what to do, see how this is done on the new T-CON. It has a principle of buckle on airplain safety belts.
7. Remove old T-CON and install new you.
8. Follow reverse order.
I've never fixed TV before , but this was totally successful project.
[email protected] the tcon board is often the video issue but ill correct you,but the panel driver board is not the same as tcon board.first,there are two panel drivers ,these are the boards on top of tcon,and also is what the tcon plugs into,you have a gamma driver and an lvds driver that controls your ccfl lamp board.,thats the long skinny board on side with about 12to14coil packs on it.if your tcon isnt the problem,its propaply power inverter

I have the same problem of audio with no video on my Samsung LNS4692DX/XAA. 2.5 years of lite use of this Sumsung in my Bedroom, My 60" Sony that is 4 years of a lot of use in my Family room has no problems just a great picture.
Surfed internet and found 100s of people reporting the same problem with that model and a lot of people saying the problem was caused by a defected T-CON, part number BN81-01286a and some also had to replace the Pico-Fuse.
Called Samsung at 800-726-7864 who claimed no one has noted this as a problem!---BULL!! Samsung the Toyota of TVs.
I will be filing legal action in New Jersey, in many courts---win or loss that not the point--Samsung legal fees will be the point and getting the word out!

The TV is fixed. I just want to say thanks for bjgryskie for giving methe courage to purchase and install the board on my own. This was not asimple task. There are many screws first of all. The most importantpart is to be very gentle when removing the panel that rest above theT-con board. There is a ribbon that is connected to the board that issecured to the panel above it. Also, very important is to secure thetwo ribbons in the two slots on the board and snap in, but to not pushthe "orange" ribbons too far in, or you will have problems with yourpicture. I pushed the left most ribbon in too far and it caused theleft half of the picture to be 70% lighter than the right had sidewhich was normal. I had to remove the left ribbon, reseat it, then snapin. But I did not push it in as far as I did before and it worked!!!You will need one person to help with balancing and securing the boardunless you decide to completely remove the entire panel above theboard, (which I didnt).

I still think this sucks that we are responsible for repairing a faulty part after only a year and a half. I will write a letter to the CEO of Samsung and let him know how disappointed I am with the current policy in place. Everyone should, they actually do read complaints! Good Luck again.
I bought my Samsung TV LN-S4692D in May 2006. On 2/15/2010 in the morning I lost the picture but had sound. I found the solution here!
Fun2's solution is the absolute best! I printed it out and followed it step by step to solve my exact same problem. I even followed the link to the picture that ldac9 posted.
A few hints of my own, for what it's worth:
1. Tcon board is at the top of the TV smack dab in the middle.
2. Take the TV off the stand and lay face down on top of a bed, using towels to cushion. You can probably leave the stand on and just hang it over the edge of the bed.
3. I could not find the board at www.encompassparts.com
I did find the board at samsungparts.com for $156.74
I also found it on ebay for $118, bought it from ebay seller e_techparts ( I am not affiliated with this seller). I ordered board late in the day 2/16/10 at 21:19. I'm a fast payer....I pay as soon as I win the buy it now. E_techparts had that board in my hands on 2/19/10 at 15:00 by priority mail. Very fast shipper! My TV was fixed in 5 days!
4. Can't stress enough to remove the 2 silver screws next to the VGA conector. These can be removed with a flat blade screwdriver, all other screws are phillips and you'll need a #1 and a #2 with a long shank to do the job.
5 The tcon shield or cover.....what a pain....
Like kburt616 I drilled a hole in the top of the plastic cabinet in order to get a phillips screwdriver in to remove the stupid 5th screw that holds this shield in place.
I suggest folding back the aluminum type tape from the shield first before removing the 4 screws that fun2 talks about in his step 5. Folding this thin silver tape back will expose the 5th screw and show you where you need to drill.
You may not have to drill....maybe you can bend the shield up and out of the way to get at the top 2 ribbon connections....your call. I like everything exposed and open.
Once the tcon shield is off. The top 2 connectors have thin black levers that run the entire width of the connector, these can be pryed back/up carefully with a small flat blade. Once popped up the ribbon cable slides out.
Replace board and reassemble...... Now, I didn't replace the screw that I had to drill the cabinet for. I simply used tin snips and cut the tab off the tcon board aluminum shield. You will see by the construction that the middle tab and screw were completely unnecessary.
Tape the top of the cabinet where you drilled and you should be done. By the way....that foil tape used on top of the tcon board shield is the same stuff that Air Conditioning people use to tape flexible duct hose and air duct joints with. If you have some you can make sure that shield is taped well at the top.....I suspect duct tape would work fine too.
I hope I have not confused anyone.....fun2's instructions are excellent and I just wanted to add my findings. That said, I almost got 4 years out of my original tcon board and I hope I don't have replace it again........these things should really last alot longer! I had an HP plasma go out way too soon with another known issue regarding boards.....but HP would NOT honor a 3 months expired warranty......I'll never buy another HP anything ever again....now unfortunately I'm leery of Samsung....but at least I was able to fix it.

I had the same problem as most on this posting; audio but no video. Called Samsung and since my 3 year old TV was out of warranty they referred me to a local repair shop. $95 for the repair shop to come out and look at the TV. Anyway, after reading the posts I bet that the T-Con board was my problem. I ordered it through Encompass and it was here within 2 days via UPS ground. I was amazed that it came in that quick. I printed out the post from "Fun2" and followed his directions. I'm glad I had his instructions otherwise it would have been a lot harder. The hardest part of the job was the removal of the ribbon cables from the T Con board. That took me about 30 minutes to figure out. In the process I ended up trashing the connector on the old board. I installed the new card and now it works like a champ again. This project took me about 2 hours to complete. I would again like to thank "Fun2" for his instructions. For my new room addition I was going to buy a new Samsung 55" LED TV but now I'm having second thoughts. I hate to spend all that money on a TV only to have an expensive repair hit me 3-4 years down the road.

Unfortunately I can't see the pictures you attached but you're dead on with replacing the T-con, otherwise known as the LCD panel driver board, p/n# Bn8101286a and available from several distributors, I use Vance Baldwin... Also check a small pico fuse located at cp1 on the board. This pico sometimes opens when the t-con fails.

I replaced the tcon, now I have blank screen. Before, it was just a ghost white image. I could see the menus, etc. Now, I can't see anything. Much more like what is described here...with a black screen. I am pretty sure I got everything connected. Is it even possible to have put the connectors to the tcon on backwards? Surely the new part is not bad. It seems to have markings that it was just tested, with my own name on a labor stuck on the part. ???

It is quite possible your connections are simply fouled... Try going through each one and make double sure you have seated them correctly. The tabs lift on each of the connectors and then push closed after you insert the ribbon cable. I have known some people who skip that process and try pushing the cable into place without unlocking the connector.

Wow, you guys rock. Cost me 125 dollars to fix the problem and sears wanted 105 just to come look at it and 650 to fix it. I ordered the board and put it in, in about 30 mins. All the info is in this thread. If you have the same symptoms as everyone else, get the board. Put it in. You will be happy you did.

I had the same problem with my Samsung ln-s4692d after 14 months of owning it. I contacted Samsung and they put me in touch with a local repair shop that diagnosed the issue as a faulty main board (for a $90 diagnosis fee). I replaced the main board and there was no change. After finding this site, I replaced the LCD controller board (or TCON board) - and it fixed the problem!
The replacement was not too difficult, although a little intimidating to take on. I just took my time and was as careful as possible.

My Samsung model LNS4692DX/XAA has the same prblem, Has sound but no picture, the lights are on inside of the TV. I replaced the T-Con today and it still has the exact same problem with the new T-Con installed.

Want to add my thanks to you guys for this solution and giving me the confidence that it could be done myself. Just replaced mine - took about 45 minutes of proceeding slowly - and this guy who has never before fixed a TV set now has a working TV. Bought the part at encompass, had it in 2 days.
Wow, that's all I can say about this site! Same problem as everyone else. My Samsung LNS4692WX/XAA lost the picture last week, audio still good. No volume bar or menu. After reading this thread I contacted several local repair shops. They quoted me $150 for the board and anywhere from $200 to $300 in labor to replace. I ordered the "Control Board" (BN81-01286A) from "Encompass Parts" formally Vance Baldwin at http://www.encompassparts.com/ for $109.00. The part arrived and I replaced it as per the above instructions. Yes there were many screws and it was a bit intimidating but after about 90 min, I was watching my Samsung once again. I fixed it today!!! Received my part at 130 had it up and running around 3 O clock. VanceBaldwin.com 116 bucks. UPS Blue ended up being 33 Dollars but it did arrive in two business days (I really needed my TV so for me it was way worth it).Ive been playing Xbox 360 and Watching TV all Day Im So HAPPY with the end result.. If you plan on attempting this the hardest part is unclipping the ribbons.. Just take your time and make sure the white line matches up when you put the ribbon in or else your picture wont be perfect..

We've been having a similar problem with our Samsung 26in LCD, it is also about 1 1/2 years old but fortunately our warranty is for 3 years. Sometimes when turning on all we get is a quick flash of the channel and then blackness but the sound is there.
**We found that turning the TV off then turning on again in analogue mode then changing back to digital mode solves the problem.(using the TV/DTV button).
But we wanted the TV working properly so we've just had the main board replaced and that hasn't worked. So the LCD board is next.

Same problem here. Exactly 1.5 years and I turned the set on....it came up fine and then the picture went out but the sound was still on. This is obviously a major problem with this set. From what I read here, looks like I'm pretty screwed on obtaining this part anytime soon. Hey, GO CHINA!!!
Well, the TCON board is purchasable from Samsungparts.com
(BN81-01286A $160). I removed the back panel from the TV and the board
has 2 removable connectors as others have stated. Now I need to decide
whether to dump more money into this TV in hopes that it will fix it or
cut my losses.
I was told by a local TV repairman that TV's sold by the big box stores
are made with inferior Chinese components as compared to ones for the
specialty stores and that most will fail. Can any experts confirm this?
If I decide to go forward I will post the results. If anyone has tried this already please share.
I have the same problem but I have'nt been so fortunate. I've been waiting 2 monts for this t-con board. I have a warranty from Comp USA they're suposed to be handling it but 2 months later they still can't get the part and they just told me today that the back order date has been moved to May 22nd, it was April 22nd then May 7th now May 22nd. I found you guys on an internet search good info. I went to samsungparts.com they say there is a nationwide back order till june 22nd. I'm dying here can anybody help.

Yup...me too. Been about 1.5 years only and have sound without picture. There should be a class action law suit against Samsung because of this. Its rediculous. At any rate, please post a fix if you manage to get your tv back working. Its collecting dust for me right now.
I have the same problem with my Samsung LN-S4692D. The unit is 1.5 years old. Watching it last nite and it went blank. Called Samsung repair set up appointment and gave the information found here and they were able to obtain the part and set up an appointment within 2 days.
I also called Samsung customer service and asked for an Executive Customer Service representative. She was able to extend the warranty for 60 days to cover the cost of the part $280 and informed the repair company that there should be not cost for the part. I will still need to pay for the labor costs, but it's better than shelling out $600 bucks or worse buying a NEW TV! thanks forthe help
We bought a Samsung 52" LCD about 11 months ago at a big box retailer. For the past month nothing but problems, TV comes on and then goes blank (dark screen) within 10 seconds, channels will change and sound can be heard and will change with each channel.
Called in the cable company to change receptor box, no improvement. Have called samsung help desk and have nothing but the run around. Does anyone know of a phone number where I can get this problem resolved before the warranty runs out in two weeks?
I also own the same set and have the same problem. However, the repair shop is telling me that samsung parts is out of stock for the t-con board and that it will take around a month to ship from South Korea. I find it hard to belive that no shop in the country has this part. Does anyone know where I can buy one?
I have a SAMSUNG LCD 46 LE46A557P2FXXU and have a simliar problem to you guys. After the TV has been on for a least 45mins (sometimes longer - couple of hours) the TV starts flickering with black lines across it followed by a black out and just a blank black screen, but you still have sound. After reading the comments I have contacted the retailer because the TV is still under warranty (thankfully) and booked an engineer. If any 1 has the same TV and has experienced the same problem or other problems please let us hear about them.
Is this the same problem as you guys or something different?
The TV is only 4months old and a little worried about the future. Does any know where or how to get a longer samsung TV warranty?

Seems to be a common problem right around the year and a half mark. I contacted Samsung support initially before stumbling upon this thread to see what they would say, and am planning on contacting them again later on today after having seen this thread. I appreciate the postings from everyone thus far and will let you know if Samsung has anything noteworthy to say upon second contact.

My TV is fixed!!! I got the part in yesterday from Vance Baldwin.
The new board has a different serial sticker (white not orange) and is dated 8/18/2008. I hope they have fixed all the problems with this board.
I bought my Samsung 46" 12/6/06 and the picture went out on it Saturday night. I called Samsung and they said they would document my complaint. WOW! Like that helped. I told them about this website and told them I would do everything in my power to pass the word NOT to buy Samsung. I have a LE52M87BD and the same symptoms. Its 15 months old so out of warranty. Anyone know if the T-con board works on this model ?- I see comments that a lot of sets have the board as part of the display so presume that means a whole new screen is needed.
This sounds like a class action suit. Same problem my Tv is 1.5 years old too and the picture just blacked out but i have sound. Samsung built them with ticking time bonds. I would be interested in knowing when they knew they were putting a defective TCON board into the TV.

Does anyone know how long UPS Blue will take and how much does it usually cost. It said TBD on my receipt. We've received the new T-con board, and taken the set apart. However, we can't figure out how to remove the screw that secures the top of the T-con board! Really don't want to drill through top of TV as others have done unless absolutely necessary!

I bought a new t-con board from TSM Tri-State Module for a LOT less ($70, plus shipping) and installed it but it did not solve the problem. I did have a situation, however, in that when I went to screw in the t-con board and cover I lost one of the baby screws that hold it in (it may have fallen inside another part in the bottom of the TV!). Can anyone tell me if this is a critical issue? In looking at the old board, I see the holes where the screws go in are surrounded by gold-ish connectors and route to some board components. Made me think I'd better look into this more - that maybe the screw completes a circuit?
I will also check the pico fuse, if I can find it. If the pico fuse is the problem - did I just waste my $70 on a new board? What should be done if it is the pico fuse?
IT'S FIXED!!! Yes, we drilled 3 small pinhole sized holes in the top of the cabinet to remove the bar on top of the T-con board. Were able to uninstall the old and install the new T-con board. TV is working perfectly now. Picture is more clear also.
We used a very small drill bit to drill pinholes into the top of the casing. Then, used tweasers to hold the scre while it was removed and replaced.
We have NEVER done anything like this before, and we estimate it was about a 3 hour job for us, and a 2-person job. Getting the foil off was tricky, but long fingernails help. :-)
More tedious than difficult, but successful. Simply small piecs of electrical tape to cover pinholes at top (in case we have to do this AGAIN).

I am having this exact same problem with my Samsung LNS4692DX/XAA. I replaced the T-Con today think that would solve the problem, but after I installed the new T-Con I am still having the problem. So I guess the T-Con in my Samsung wasnt the problem.
What else could it be?? Please advise!!
