Most Sony MD's 'Auto Pause' feature can only be turned on & off with the remote. I am still unsure whether this is a feature on the JE480. I am led to believe that it is however you will need an older model's remote to turn it on & off. You need to locate the 'A-Space' button and press until 'A Pause' appears in the display. You can now turn it on or off. Good luck.
Auto-pause can only be used when recording digitally, it is a feature callled "Music Sync" and only available from the remote.
You can also look in to the "L.Sync" and "Smart Space" features. "L.Sync" will automatically insert a track mark when there is at least 3 seconds of silence. "Smart Space" will truncate all silence longer than 3 seconds to 3 seconds and then insert a track marker
It's easy. According to Page 11 of your owner's manual, the 480 does not have that feature.
If it did, you wouldn't need the remote to set it.
