My Toshiba M115-S3094 laptop is approximately 20 months old. Recently the AC adapter expired and would not power the laptop without the battery and would not charge the battery. After the battery charge was exhausted the laptop powered down and all power lights went dark. The laptop would not power on at all.
I ordered a new AC adapter. When I connected the AC adapter to the laptop, the power lights came on including the battery, which appears amber in color and indicates the battery is charging. I also downloaded and installed the latest BIOS version (1.50) from Toshiba's support site because earlier versions were identified with battery related issues.
Unfortunately, the AC adapter did not solve the entire problem. Although the battery appears to be charging and the Toshiba Power Saver Properties show the current power source as AC adapter, the remaining battery power as 60%, and operating in the Normal power mode, I cannot unplug the AC adapter power without the laptop shutting down and all power lights going dark. In addition, the 60% battery power has not changed during the past 24 hours when the AC adapter was connected.
Is the battery bad too? I'm sure the old AC adapter was bad because it would not power the laptop without the battery or re-charge the battery. The new AC adapter will power the laptop, but the battery won't power the laptop or apparently re-charge. Before I lay out $100+ for a new battery or take it in the repair shop, I would like to know for sure whether the problem is the battery.
I would appreciate any assistance in diagnosing the source of my problem!
Thanks in advance for your help!!!
I would buy a new aftermarket battery from ebay..cost around, at the most $20..and try that...and a warning about updating the bios...be VERY careful doing this..make 100% sure your ac adapter, and power source is working 100%. If your in the middle of updating the bios and the power fails for ANY reason..your laptop is toast..you will not get a 2nd chance to do it...I have done this and lost a perfectly working laptop...just a warning..
20 months, I think your battery is old, maybe you can order a new battery.
You can visit http://www.laptopbatterymart.com/laptop-batteries/toshiba.htm to find the battery that you need.
Your battery not able to hold a charge is a bad battery.
Love your precise description & diagnoses. Wish others would describe their troubles as well as you!
Have a great day!
Each battery has a maxmin usable time before it needs a charge. If your notebook is new & you travel or are away from a power source I suggest a longer lasting battery. On the other hand if your not away from a power source that often than the original 6 cell lithium-ion 10.8 volt would be fine. No need to pay for something one does not need. If you place an order for a new or new compatible battery, try to do so by phone. Ask the questions, Do you warrant this battery for over heating issues durring normal charge & unable to hold a charge? How long? Some only warrant for 1 year. Againg more bang for your buck.
Good luck & Kind Regards

In very rare cases, the battery pack of your PC may stop accepting a charge, i.e., the battery stops working and no longer supplies power to the computer. To minimize the risk of ever experiencing this problem, we strongly recommend that you download and install the latest BIOS by clicking the 'Downloads' link that will appear when you are finished reading Support News).

Now about the mic.
It doesn't have a built in microphone but it does have a jack so you can put one in.
Happy Holidays.

If you dont even get a menu up when you press f8 then try f11 or f12 for a boot menu and select ide 0 it may be that it is trying to boot from another device

Hi map9966,
Thanks for the quick response to my inquiry. I was looking for confirmation that the battery was the remaining issue before I layed out the $100+. I have looked around for a replacement battery and realized that I have a few options. I can purchase a "compatible" 6 cell lithium-ion 10.8 volt, 4600 mAh, for about $90 a "compatible" 12 cell lithium-ion 10.8 volt, 9200 mAh, for about $112, or order the "original" 6 cell lithium-ion 10.8 volt, 4000 mAh, for about $90. Would you recommend the "original" replacement or would one of the compatibles work as well?
Again, thanks for your assistance and I will provide a very favorable rating once the battery is installed and working!
Have a great day too!
