The washer runs through the cycle, but does not fully agitate.

I checked the bottom of the washer and inspected the belt and it is in good condition. It seems to me that the belt might be a bit loose. Can this be the problem that the agitator is not fully agitating? ( It barely agitates) If so, how can I tighten the belt? Or what do I need to do to fix my problem?

If no visible adjustment nut, then you need to replace new belt may be it already wornout and not capable pulling.

Washer keeps spinning. doesn't move to next cycle

Hi,
It sounds like the agitator , air bell or transmission is failing. Since the unit spins the belt & motor is ok. I recommend removing & inspecting the agitator & air bell. If they are not stripped out then you have a transmission failure.
Or, start the washer at the beginning of a cycle set to the lowest water level. After the unit fills it should be agitating stop the washer. Open the lid & try moving the agitator, if the agitator will not move it is good & no need to remove for inspection. You have a bad transmission. If the agitator moves easily then we know that the agitator or air bell is stripped out & will need to be inspected for confirmation before replacing.

Hope this helps.

Washer fills, agitates and drains but will not spin (any speed or cycle).

  • Test the lid switch
  • Inspect the motor coupler
  • Inspect the drive belt (belt drive only)
  • Inspect under the washer for soot (clutch)
  • Test the motor
  • Inspect the pulley
  • Test the transmission
  • Inspect the agitator
  • Inspect the pump coupling
  • Test the water level switch
These are the common problems of a washer that will not spin. In my opinion I would say check the transmission. Any more questions feel free to ask.

    Maytag Washer will not spin

Pull the unit forwardand lean it back about 45 degrees. You'll have to play with it a bit, but once it's far enough out, it will lean back without you having to hold it. Remove and inspect the belt(s) are they in good condition? Next, check the pulleys (wheels) underneath. Do they turn? One is for your pump, one is for your transmission and one is for the motor. (in case one doesn't turn, you'll know what portion needs to be worked on). Also check the track on your pulley the belt sits in. Is it dammaged or worn?
