We bought a chest freezer and brought it home but had it laying on it's back, when we got it home we plugged it in and the light came on but it won't get cold. We had it upright for 3 days before plugging it in for the first time due to that it was laying on it's back. Any ideas?
Good day, You didn't say if it runs. The machine when it does run is still very quiet. With it on, if you can hear it running. You may have to put your ear up to the machine. If so, then in the move you caused a refrigerant leak. The leak could be anywhere in the machine including areas that cannot be reached. If however, they are lines that run on the outside of the machine, they can be repaired by a qualified tech, but the repair would be pricey.
If it is not running, I would check around the compressor area for a wire that was knocked off.

If it is running but not cooling enough the problem is in the sealed system.
If you started it up just after hauling it home it may have be moved around enough to get oil in the systems smaller tubing causing problems. Unplug the unit for 24 hours and let it sit. Try it again for 24 hours and see if it cools.
If not this means either there is a refrigerant (freon) leak in the system or a restriction causing the refrigerant to not flow properly.
Either one are an expensive repair. and will require a professional to look at.
You jard the liquids. Did you just move it a little or move like to another house because if you move a frig or freezer somewhere or lay on it's side you shouldn't plug in for an hour or more so it all settles or it won't work. Hope this helped
your ptc overload relay on the compressor is bad, unplug it off the compressor and get a replacement at an appliance parts store, plug in the replacement and this will solve your problem
Is your circulating fan working?
Sometimes they stick and need a shot of WD 40 and then work
it back and forth a little until it wants to take off again. Keep me informed
and PLEASE give a Thumbs Up for the effort. The Raz Shack
Whenever you get a frig or freezer delivered it is best to wait at least 24hrs (some say 8 hrs) before you plug in. It maybe unknown to you if this was shipped to you in the laying down postion. If it was and you plugged in it will not work because laying down the oil migrated away from the compressor.
Other than that the freezer could have (possible chance but still possible) problems that are out of your control. If you brought it at a retail store you have at least 2 weeks to exchange. Do that a.s.a.p.
Dont bother trying to figure out just exchange!!!
fairly unusal but ...posibly vapour locked.... people transporting fridges and freezers laying them down or chest freezers standing them up in a truck or trailer (taking them to the cottage) have this problem all the time unplug it for 24 hrs should cure it Good Luck
I am having the same problem. How long did it take?
I bought mine second hand and think it may be broken. I plugged it in 8 hours ago. I can hear it running but it's not cold yet.
