There is a water leak that i'm not sure where it's coming from.
It's not the water lines or drain. where else can I check?
It sounds like you have a leaking pump. The pump is easy to replace:
#1 Use a shop vac and pull all the water out of the drain line. This will keep you from having to clean up about 1 gallon of water off of the floor.
#2 Lift the front of the machine enough for you to get under and see.the pump just inside the front of the washer.
#3 Lift the 2 retaining clips off of the pump. This will allow you to pull the pump off of the motor.
#4 Remove the 2 clamps off of the hoses.
#5 Install the new pump into the hoses, and reinstall the clamps.
#6 With the retaining clips installed into the motor housing, install the pump.
#7 Attach the retaining clips, and set the washer back on the ground.
You have now replaced the washer pump.

Pull the washer out from the wall and tip it back to rest against the wall. You should see where the water is coming from now. Or as I did until the eye glasses got in the way, lay on the floor while running and see where the drip is coming from.
There is a pump and a seal under the washer, look for both of those areas undernesth the tub.
The washing mochine does not spin, where is the filter so i can clean it_
Has the 70 series got a filter??....our clothes are coming out of the machine even dirtier than when they went in.....any help?? Thanks! Ivy

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.
First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action
Enter your model number and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.
If everything else works OK, and the timer moves, the problem could be in the transmission / gearcase.
If you lift the lid, put it down again and the washer begins to spin, the problem is likely in the transmission "Neutral Drain Assembly".
Those cams/gears etc. in that assembly keep the washer from spinning until all of the water is pumped out and then go into spin mode. Apparently, by opening and closing the lid, torque from the motor starting throws the cams into the right gears so that the washer will spin.
This is the Whirlpool PDF on installation and maintenance of direct drive washers. See the section on the transmission.
WHIRLPOOL INST AND MAINTENANCE INCLUDING HOW TRANSMISSION WORKS

Ours had the same problem, no spin unless the lid was raised and lowered or we shut off and re-started the cycle.
After looking at the transmission parts list (available on a number of sites) and on the Whirlpool site (Whirlpool makes Kenmore) we noticed that the one of the cams in the neutral assembly which is supposed to have a small spring, didn't on ours when we tore the transmission apart again
http://shared.whirlpoolcorp.com/assets/pdfs/literature/Repair%20Part%20List%20-%20W10114743.pdf
Found the part number for a kit (Whirlpool part number 388253 Neutral Assembly) for $15.00 and replaced the cams and gears.
In order to get the transmission out, you have to remove the cabinet, the fabric dispenser and both agitators. The top agitator uses a plastic 1/2" drive bolt. You don't have to remove the drum.
You can also see this site for removing the transmission.
http://www.fixya.com/support/r699497-replacing_gearcase
Lay the machine down (after disconnecting power and hoses, remove the pump (two clips), the motor (two screws hold two clips on the motor), lift and set the motor aside, remove two 1/2 inch bolts for the motor mounting plate and three 1/2 inch bolts for the transmission. Pull the transmission, remove the clutch (there is a spring clip that holds the clutch on the main agitator shaft, remove the 8 screws carefully the transmission holds 14 - 15Oz of oil, remove the clip holding the main spin gear on and check the plastic cams.
If the cam that should have a spring doesn't, or the others look damaged, the washer won't go into spin mode.
If that's the problem, install a Neutral drain kit, put everything back together carefully and the problem may be solved.
With ours, all told, it cost less than $30 (including new 80-90 weight gear oil) vs. about $170 for a new transmission.
The job is a bit complicated and messy but not too difficult.

If you bought a new washer and you still have a leak, i guess it was not the washer but where it drains into. Sink or stand pipe has a leak. unless you are useing the old drain hose from your old washer. Dry up everything and look for the sorse of water with a bright light when the washer drains .

I have a similar problem. My Sears Heavy Duty Kenmore washer purchased in 1993 is leaking around the front of the machine. It has been a fantastic unit without incident until now. I suspect the water pump but am not sure. The model number listed is 110-404090. Are water pumps for a unit of this age still available for is it time to move up to a newer model. It certainly doesn't owe me anything but still if I can replace the pump and keep it running...why not? Many thanks for any help and direction. It is appreciated. DG
I have the same model 110 (Kenmore Heavy Duty 70) and mine started doing the same thing. My senior parents gave it to me after they moved in with my sister and they had it approx. 10 yrs. I've owned it for approx. 5 yrs. It started leaking in the front after it fills up and the wash cycle started. Ruined my hardwood floor in the kitchen. I have trouble climbing stairs so it's very convenient having it on the first floor. I sure hate to give it up because it's a great machine. Can it be fixed or is it time to get rid of it and start shopping for a new one. ~mlp
Can anyone tell me what the tub size is? Is it 4 cu?
