Size of load: Check to see that you are not overfilling the washer. The water and clothes should be about 3/4 full in the washer. Overloading the washer can result in the drum becoming unbalanced and making banging sounds.

If you balanced the machine, the only other problem could be the load itself. Either the load is too great or if washing a single item its falling to one side, tilting the drum and when spinning it will thump. Try even lodes.

Usually, these are the trouble parts when loud noises are associated with the spinning cycle. Your drive motor controls the spinning. Since the noise is during spinning, that is probably where your problem lies.

The "Metallic banging/clicking" sound you hear is the Shifter mechanism engaging or disengaging.
The drive system will engage at the start of the Agitate Cycle and disengage when the Agitate Cycle is complete. This occurs multiple times during the wash. GE claims this is a normal sound and should not be concerned about it. Check and see if the inner drum is loose and floppy.if it is, it's likely the bearings have collapsed, and require replacement...If the drum feels stiff and tight, it could be that something is jammed between the inner and outer drums. Both situations could be costly...Get quotes....Good luck...Nomess
I just replaced the bearings on my Front loader Maytag MAH5500B, as it sounded like a freight train during the spin cycle. The bearing replacement fixed the train problem.
NEW PROBLEM NOW: It's been about a month now since the bearing job and now something is clicking/binding when you spin the back belt wheel. I have taken the belt off and carefully move the wheel and I still get this clicking noise. It sounds as if someone is hitting the plastic drum that the tub is surrounded by. I really doubt it's the bearings this soon, as the sound is not the same! No leaks or metal shavings to speak of or rubbing of the belt wheel.
Seems like it's more noticeable during the wash/rinse cycles then the spin.
Unless your front loader is set firmly on concrete
and leveled to perfection, the force of a heavy wash load spinning in
excess of 1000rpm will create a bit of vibration and noise.A firm footing is your best defense against to much movement. Also due to the earlier movements during the spin cycle, the
shocks that are used to dampen the spin cycle might have been broken or
damaged. If the problem persists inspite of proper levelling, please do check for the shocks or might have them replaced them for good.
