I have a 32", 4yr old vizio tv that was spontaneously turning itself off, while we were watching it, for about 6 months. Now, i cannot get the remote to turn it on, and one of the kids broke the on button while trying to "fix" it. Can this be repaired, can I do it myself, and is it worth the cost of a professional?
This sounds like the main power board went bad. If this is still under warranty, contact 1-877-MYVIZIO and they will have it repaired for you. if not, let me know and I will guide you to the right part.
unless you have experiance in ekectronics i would not attempt this fix myself! and with the parts and labor added up it very well be cheaper to replace it! hdts are at an all time low right now!

To program a Vizio TV with the Greenbrier International 110064 Universal 6 In 1 Remote, you can follow these steps:
Turn on your Vizio TV.
Press and hold the "Code" button on the remote until the LED light stays on.

Before you toss forget remote try using buttons on tv itself press source leve you device you want to watch on then go through av /av/1 hdmi /so on using chanal up down to move or some are volume ok if your using red yellow white cords make sure they are in AV in port fist good luck i am shaw its not broken .

Upon first start you should be prompted. If not, you will find a series of buttons on the TV itself; power,channel up down, volume up/down, input and menu. Hit the menu button and the menu will pop up. Scroll up and down with channel button, select and controls are the volume. either that or you can get a Samsung phone that has an app built into it called watch on, which has a universal remote that works for virtually everything. I think you may have the same thing going on that we had happen several times, I think its stuck in RGB mode. Go to the TV itself, and turn it on manually. As SOON as you turn it on, hold the input button on the side of the TV for 30 seconds. This should get it back to the normal TV mode. We got this fix from Vizio ppl.
Sorry the problems,ur tv it is having,it can't be repair,the tv Plasma screen panel itself it is shorted and dead,that why the tv plasma screen panel have only a third of the plasma screen panel it have a good clear picture and the other 1/3 of the tv plama screen panel is black and dead.The tv that have a broken or shorted dead plasma screen panel it is not worth repairing,because only way repair it is by replacing the whole entire plasma screen panel itself.The tv plasma screen are about 90% of the cost of the tv and can't buy it anywhere else except the tv corporations dealers themselves.Sorry tv now,only can be salvages for those electronic boards for parts that it.
LCD inverter module may have encountered a failure. Most common is an electrolytic capacitor failing in the power supply. Examine the board to see if any of the caps have a bloated or raised top, they should not be swollen or leaky. If so find the replacement capacitor # on line and replace. You will require a modicum of soldering skills. You indicate the tv is 6 months old.
Return it for warranty service, do not open your tv or you will void your consumer warranty.
