Hello!Sony SDM-HS73 power-inverter problem

Hello!
Problems with monitor Sony SDM-HS73.

The monitor is about 7 years old.

Now i have a problem with Power Supply Board with Inverter
part number = 6871TPT237G.

I discover PCB board and found two faulty
smd HEX FETS = IRF7389.
Also the E2 diode was burnt.
There are 4 HEX FETS on the pcb board.

One of them was burnt very much and damage the pcb also.
Looks like it was very hot.

I replaced all 4 HEXFETS with new one, also diode E2
and all electrolitic caps on PCB board.

I check all and put components together and monitor
starts fine with no problems.
LCD back light works OK.

After two days, the same two HEXFETS short
circuit again.

Looks like something is overheating and
damage the HEX FETS.

Have anyone the same fault and find solution?

Probably i must replace complete G board.

At this point you may have bad transformers, bad tuning cap, you need to check the frequency of the inverter oscillator to see if both of them are running at the same frequency, the bad one may not be. The Inverter/power supply is not made by SONY, Powernet makes the board. Please see what went wrong with the one I fixed.

One thing to keep in mind, when the board turn into carbon (blacken), it will conduct. The circuits operate at high voltage and high frequency.

I will be just about impossible to get the board or lamp replace, cost too much.

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). Monitor keeps going black, turn power button off, and back on, reconnects and then goes back out again. happens with more frequency.
The problem is in the inverter board it is on the verge of failure, it is caused by bad capacitors in most cases and will eventually go. The board must be replaced or an attempt to repair the old one.

No input signal, go to power save sony sdm-hs93
I f you see the message on the screen indicating 'NO INPUR SIGNAL', you need to check the VGA cable and both ends of the connectors also. Try this monitor with other PC also.

This SDM-HS73/93 have common problem: bad backlight assemblies due to poor workmanship in sodlering works, see my pictures below. You should also inspect the caps. This is not recommend for DIY.

You may have failed backlight inverter circuits, caps failure in the power supply, or bad lamps. Here is the service manual: http://www.eserviceinfo.com/downloadsm/22184/SONY_SDM-HS73.html
You will need to open it up and take some voltage measurement in the power supply first to make that you do have correct DC voltage feeding the inverter PCBA.

My sdm-hs73 moniter the power is on but screen is blank, what could be wrong
First check brightness and contrast settings.
If all good could either be your lcd back light has gone or the inverter. To check if its the black light shine a torch through the back of the screen to see if you can see a slight image on it, if you cant see anything the inverter board is faulty and to repair needs to be changed.

Sony LCD HS73 LCD goes blank 2sec.
defective backlight inverter unit. Replace the inverter unit or chek if there is any dry joints inside the unit.

Sony Monitor ... SOMEONE HELP, please!
Thanks for your response. I actually sent my monitor out to guy that does LCD repairs for cheap. He changed out the video board and did repairs similar to yours but still couldn't get the monitor to work. After some more testing, he found that one of the chips that contained Sony's proprietary firmware had gone bad and said there really was no way to replace the chip. It definitely seems like we had the same problem, so I thought this information may help. I'm sorry that you paid so much for repairs that didn't solve the problem.
