I have a HP Pavillion dv9000, and my laptop works fine but when i plug it into the power source, the screen gets messed up, either it goes black or the colours go crazy and then turns it self of. At the moment im having to charge it while its off, and then use it til the battery runs out and then i have to charge it again. It really useless! Help!!
Take out the battery, main.
plug in the AC pack and the PC must run perfectly
if it does not try a new powerpack, AC.
why skip the battery out test first, ?
all laptops made the batteries are short lived.
and short, and overload the power supplies,
run on AC pack only, first.
then tell what it does, or get a new pack 19vdc, 65WATTS or more.
no photos of ugly screens presented, so , how can see see it?
cant.
U better remove ur ram and reinsert in slot if you have two rams in mother board please take out one ram from one slot and check if it same take out another ram from slot and check it

This is caused by burn out of the Nvidia graphics chip on the motherboard. You need a new motherboard. This is due to a design flaw (the subject of a class action against HP in the USA). I have had two motherboards fail on me in this way so far - do not expect any worthwhile support from the HP "support" people they are all in India and can hardly communicate outside of their simple repetative scripts. Its impossible to escape them - I tried communicating with head office but all you get is contact details back to the incomprehensible Indian call centre. I strongly recommend against ever purchasing from HP again.

It's either the motherboard or the power supply.
I'd start with testing the power supply. If you've got a multi-meter great. Just measure the voltage and see if it fluctuates.
If not, check with a local repair shop to see if they have a power adapter they could use to test with.

You can browse this hp web page http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01186408&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=1842189
You can reinstall the video drivers as well but it might be better to call support. The number can be found on the same site. Good Luck

Connect your laptop up to an external monitor. If you get a picture on the external monitor then you know that your Chip is fine. At that point You will need to replace the screen.
