Would anyone know what's going on with my PS3 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGRrFgZZ2og)? I did a system update in order to play LBP. After that, I could feel my PS3 became very hot by touching its surface. Then my PS3 started to have problem reading any discs (blu-ray, dvd, cd, etc). I could insert any discs into the blu-ray drive without problem, but the laser seems not able to detect any of them, nor does the screen show any kind of pop-up. The PS3 just gives a seem-to-be "invalid disc" beeping sound whenever a disc is inserted. I opened it up and everything looks clean. I wonder if it is a problem to the blu-ray laser, or problem with the mainboard... Please help, thanks!

What are you saying you screw up your $600 dollar console. OMFG i mean common man. Jeez luis. Well since you have your ps3 already open your ps3 system you should open again and extract cod4 out of your blue ray drive before you hook it up and all that. So take the game out connect the blue ray drive back put the system together and power it up. See if that works.

SOURCE: PS3 Won't Take Disc!
Hi, I think it was me who had helped you before. I will be glad to help again. Ok, first you have to tear apart your PS3 (just like when you cleaned it). Now looking at the rollers and "dogs" make sure that they are closed and not open all the way like when a disc is in it. Look at the flap on the top too make sure it opens and closes freely. Next, PLEASE BE CAREFUL!! Plug your PS3 in and try to hit the eject button, if it is reset and ready for a disc it will beep twice when you hit the eject button without a disc in it. Place the top back on the he DVD drive and try to insert a disc. At this point it should take it. If not then try hitting the eject again. Once the PS3 resets and takes and ejects discs again, then you can put it back together.

I do hear that the controller card on that revision of PS3 can have failure issues... right now I'm waiting on a new bluray drive assembly for a CECHE01 because of, basically, the very same problem. This eBay seller(lives on the other side of the US from me) seems to know a good bit about these issues, and even provides his phone number for tech support. Search under his store for: CECHE01

So your shiney black pearl stopped reading discs huh? Now you are wondering if you can fix it because A)You are out of warranty and don't wanna pay almost 200 bucks to have it fixed or B) You are under warranty but don't wanna be without your PS3 for almost a month or longer .... Maybe you casn fix it on your own, if the problem is simple enough.
Sometimes the PS3 won't read discs simply because the lens is dirty, to find out if thats the case insert a game or blu-ray disc ... take careful note of the disc's 'label' as you put it in ... once it doesn't read after 10-15 seconds eject it ... if the disc's label hasn't moved your blu-ray drive's 'motor' is broken. Best bet is to send back to Sony and pay em. Or take the PS3 apart and try to replace the whole blu-ray drive.
If you remove the disc and notice it has moved your lens is probably dirty. This you 'can' fix yourself. First give the PS3 a GOOD cleaning. Vacuum it, blast it with a can of compressed air, vacuum again. Try disc.
Didn't work? Try a lens cleaner kit.
Didn't work? Time to get your hands dirty ... open the PS3 up (at your own risk) and clean the laser manually with pure alcohol and a q-tip. (video tutorials are on youtube.com)
Disc read errors are our main problem. It isn't some full blown epidemic but IS becoming worse by the day. My reasoning for this problem is simple: The PS3 is a dust MAGNET. I'm betting 90% of the disc read errors are cause by dust and dirt and pet hair getting in the machine and making the lens dirty or causing actual failure of the drive motor itself.
I love the PS3 and wish it didn't fail for anyone, especially this month with great titles almost here, but it happens. Happened to me on April 1st and I found out my blu-ray drive motor failed. A dirty lens I woulda fixed on my own. We really need a good blu-ray cleaner kit to come on the market in all major retail stores.
