Realtek RTL8187B wireless adaptor

I have had the laptop for 16 months and the router is not working. It requires the software but everytime I try to install it gives me an error saying ''code 10 unable to open device''

There is a good connection with the external wireless adapter that is working ok. The internal network adaptere disappeared for no reason and although I have found it again when the driver is installed it then finishes with the code 10 error.

I have since saved a driver from the Realtek website but the laptop will not let me load it in preference to the pre-installed driver which I think has a fault.

no I am not trying to install a usb adapter, I am using one which works but I do not want to use that one. I want to use the internal network adapter that came with the laptop

What do you mean by the router is not working? Routers don't usually require software. Are you trying to configure your router from your laptop, if so you should make sure you are not using wireless, use wired.

Code 10 sounds more like you are having trouble connecting a USB wireless card (like a belkin)? Is this the case?

Laptop toshiba can't find my wireless router realtek rtl8187b wireless 802.11b/g 54mbps usb 2.0 network adapter

Try checking your computer's driver. Right click on Computer. Go to Device Manager. The device drivers are listed in the device manager. Drivers are used to make your computer parts communicate with the operating system. If it has a problem, then the part won't work.

Check for your wireless driver - update it. If no go, then try turning off your wireless adapter in your computer and turn it on. Check = if no go. Try going to safe mode with networking.

To go to safe mode. Do the following:

1. Restart your computer. While it's starting or booting, keep tapping F8 until you see the options to go to safe mode with networking. Use the arrow keys to highlight safe mode with networking.

2. Let your computer start in safe mode. Check if wireless is working fine.

If you want to avoid this kind of problem in the future or if you want to make sure that your computer is running well, then install Radarsync.

Wirelss adaptor doesnt find my router home network

In your router settings, try changing the protocol, from WEP to WPA/PSK or otherwise. Select one then this should restart your router. Once live see if you can find the router. Also try to set it to Open and also see if this changes anything.

Hope this helps.

This is not a problem. Wireless connections sometimes tend to be inconsistent. Try closing the distance between your laptop and the wireless network adapter.

Toshiba Satellite A205-S5804

Download the 8187b drivers from Realtek's site. You then need to go in and edit the .inf file to read like this:

;;****************************************************************************
;; IDs for 98SE/ME/2K/XP
;;****************************************************************************
[Realtek]
%RTL8187B.DeviceDesc% = RTL8187B.ndi, USB\VID_0BDA&PID_8197&REV_0200
%RTL8187B.DeviceDesc% = RTL8187B.ndi, USB\VID_0BDA&PID_8189&REV_0200

After the edit, install as usual from the device manager.
