When I scan a document it outputs as a TIFF file which is very large. How can I get it to output the scan into a JPEG files instead. It used to do this, but now it does TIFF and I'm not sure why.

On an Epson printer I cannot scan because I always get a message that says "file cannot be created please use another prefix for file name". How can this be fixed?

Read through the discussion at the internet link below, and it may help you fix this.

https://archivehistory.jeksite.org/chapters/scan_part5.htm

Quoting:

Other> Save settings: saves the settings and preview when Epson Scan is closed and is usually convenient.

The button for File Save Settings to the right of the Scan button determines the folder, file name, and format for the output files. The Location section of the dialog box specifies where the output files are written. I normally select the Other button and then Browse to identify the folder.
The output file names are limited to a prefix and number. The prefix can be set to identify the image. The added number is usually not needed and can be removed by renaming the file after it has been created.
The field for Image Format includes the usual TIFF and JPEG. Note that plain TIFF should normally be used for archival scanning, not the Multi-TIFF option.
The checkbox for "Show this dialog box before next scan" can be checked to give the opportunity to set the output file name for each scan. As noted above, the prefix part of the name can identify the image.
The checkbox for "Open image folder after scanning" can be checked to provide the opportunity to examine the final image and rename the output file.

Converting scanned documents into Word documents

Scan the text pageyou want to convert into a Microsoft Word document.
Save the scanned image as a *.gif, *.jpeg file, if possible save it as a *.tiff file.
If the image file is not a TIFF file then OPEN that saved image file, go to File - Save As and name it as a TIFF file.
Go to Start- Programs - Microsoft Office Tools - Microsoft Office Document Imaging Go to File - Open and open your scanned document that has been saved in *.tiff format.
Go to Tools - Send Text to Word. You will get a prompt stating this process will taketime, Click OK.
This will take several minutes depending on your computer's speed and the size of the text document. When it has completed Microsoft word will open and the word document can now be edited and spell checked.
Spell check should be done on the document after conversion because not all the text may be converted correctly.

Printing on photo

Hi

Please scan the document in JPEG format and then take the printout, as TIFF format is suitable for text files and not images. After scanning, check whether the file is in JPEG format or not. If not then you can convert it into JPEG format by using MS Office picture manager or simply MS Paint.

Please do accept the solution and revert for further assistance.

Thanks

MCF 6490CW SCAN AS A PDF

I was trying to figure out how to scan multi-page documents to a single file and found this on the Brother website:

Double-click on the ControlCenter3 icon located in the Task Tray to launch the program window.

Click on CONFIGURATION -> SCAN.

Choose the type of scan you require. The choices are: IMAGE,
E-MAIL, and FILE.

The Scan to configuration window will appear.

The SOFTWARE BUTTON tab configures the Scan to button within theControlCenter3 software interface. The DEVICE BUTTON tab configures the Scan to key on the Brother machine. Choose the tab you want to configure.

Under FILE TYPE select an option that allows multi-page documents:

a) PDF (*.PDF)
b) Tiff Multi-Page # Uncompressed (*.tif)
c) Tiff Multi-Page # Compressed (*.tif)

Click OK.

Scanned doucment at 75 is still too large - file is over 1MB

Hi,
Check for the Save Options in scanner settings. If it is in .GIF or .TIFF format the file size obviously increases.  If you change it to .JPEG format it reduces to around 900kb.

Saving a document as a pdf

JPEG gives small size outputs as compare uncompressed TIFF. This is probabbly the best for color. Try reducing the resolution to 150-300 dpi.

Hi,I have got a Canon, smartbase MPC 400 printer/scanner. My question is: How can I scan a document straight to a PDF file, because it only gives me options for TIF,BMP and JPEG. I have downloaded a TIF to...

I'm using an MP780. Usually when I scan an image to jpeg I press START, CANON, SCANGEAR STARTER. This open a window to ScanGear MP. Since I use the Advance Tab I can set the DPI and whatever outputs. The DPI rsolution will determine the size of the file also. When it is finished scanning it goes to the next window which has Save As Type and Save Scanned Image to. Save As Type is where you can choose JPG or TIFF or BMP. Hope this helps.
