Nikon D50 with Nikon DX 18-55 lens will not focus

I have an Nikon D50 camera with a Nikon DX AF-S Nikkor 18-55 lens. The lens no longer auto focuses. It did at first but at some point it stopped working. Other lenses work on the body. Both the lens and the body are set to the "a" position.

Hi,
Sorry to hear about your lens. If you are able to autofocus and take pictures with any other lens, then it means that your problem lies with the kit lens. If you can take picture in manual mode, but not in autofocus mode, then the AF motor in the lens in not functioning. I had the same thing happen to my 50mm 1.4 lens.

Depending on your location, there are Nikon repair centers in Melville, NY and Torrance, CA.
Hope this helps,
Andrew

SOURCE: Nikon DX AF- S Nikkor 18-55 mm lens won't Auto focus

Is the switch on the side of the lens set to manual or auto? Sometimes it's the little things like this that we don't notice.

Nikon 18 to 55 lens wont focus

Check to make sure the manual focus/auto focus switch on the lens is set to A. Make sure the lens is completely mounted to the camera and locks securely. If this does not help, or if the lens was dropped, then you should consider buying a new lens. the cost of fixing the old lens may be at least half of the cost of buying a new one.

Nikkor af-s 18-200 VR not focusing

Please check your focus settings in the camera menu. Play around with the focus point from Single to 11 points. Also, try Auto mode as a quick way to test if the focus is working

Squeaking when try to focus. will not focus

My lens is also doing that same thing... and I just posted pretty much the exact thing you said...Mine squeaks and goes in and out really fast.. I do know that you can put the camera on manual mode and focus manually on mine, but would like to have the auto focus sometimes too. If I dont get an answer soon, I may send it in... I believe its a motor problem in the lens....

Manual Focus won't work

Which camera are you using? If the body has AF/MF switch, put that also to MF.If this fails to help, take out the lens and try to change it to MF.
