You may need a new laptop screen or there could be just a loose connection. The backlight could also need replacing.
I would take it into a repair shop and see what they suggest. New screens and backlights can be found on ebay and most repair shops will offer discount if you supply the new parts

If you have an external monitor, try connecting the laptop to it, then toggle FN+F8 to project display from lalaptop to external monitor.
If the external monitor does not have a display aswell (totally blank) , then its a problem with the video card.
You can also run an LCD Bist test by turning off the system , then while the system is turned off press D + power , If you dont hear a beep but no display at all, then its an LCD problem.
hello, if works fine whit external monitor so is no problem whit motherboard, problem must be in display or the connector that connect motherboard to display
its not dificult to change display but i recomand that u go to a specialist
I just hooked up the Soyo moniter to my Dell XPS M1210 laptop and it won't display. I went to the Dell manual and it said to go to Start, click Control, Panel, click Display, Click Settings but when I go to the Display part the option is not available. Help please.
3 different problem 1 - lide sensor (disable lid actions in power managment)2- graphic chip (check with extrnal monitor)3 - inverter ( check with external monitor)
The inverter or backlight on the display may have gone out. Connect an external VGA monitor to the laptop. If it works, then the display has a bad inverter or the backlight CCFL lamp went out.
try to use an external monitor, plug it on the system and let it work with it for an entire day, it the problem occurs on the external monitor, it can be the video card, but if the problem doesnt happen on external monitor, its the lcd. try also to go to bios, by pressing F2 when the computer turns on and you see the dell screen, it will go to the bis an let it stay there for hours, if the problem happens in bios, video card is indeed bad. you said you have tried the diagnostics? is it by pressing Fn and power button? if the diagnostic looks fine, its a software but you mentioned you have reinstalled the operating sytem already,so focus on the hardware part. i believe your video card might be intel which is integrated or nvidia, for nvidia, lots of issues for it. so better try the external monitor or go to bios.
You said you hooked up your hard drive to another system, so I'm going to assume everything displayed properly and all that. You might not necessarily have a dead motherboard. It could very well be that your display is shot, which is $200+ to replace.
One way that might help you tell if its a motherboard problem or not is when you turn on the laptop if the hard drive indicator doesn't blink the way it normally does when it starts up, then it's probably a motherboard problem.
