When you are on on screen menu setup, there should be 'reset to factory setting' to put it back to factory default setting. I am not sure which exact model you have, but you cann download user manuals here:

We have a 22" LG

Dear amy mcioynt,

Welcome, and thank you for using FixYa!

The issue you describe it caused by the video board going bad. All of the controls for video display, clocking, brightness, contrast, and input source is handled by this card.
They are replaceable, if you have the part number. Most of the time they range from $50 - $75

Have a great evening!

Contrast

The supplied software should allow you to set brightness and contrast if there are no front panel buttons to set it.
Check for LG or Flatron programs under the Programs listing available from the Start panel.

So simple, but yet.....how do I move the cursors to increase contrast

there is sometimes a subtle change in highlight when you have selected the brightness (or any manual change menu selection) you should then be able to make changes to the selection via the up or down buttons on the monitor

Bright screen with very low contrast

I fixed it myself, it seems that the monitor have some problems remembering it's settings and sometimes it automatically set its settings to crazy values that are out of the range that we are allowed to input. For my case, the setting that was crazy was the gamma setting since it was set so high. I wasn't able to bring it back to a normal setting so I found a way to do it by resetting the monitor. So to reset these display settings such as colour, contrast, brightness and gama, you need to turn on the monitor and unplug the monitor without turning it off and plug it back in again. It will automatically power on and the correct default settings will be present.
