My Panasonic FZ18 is currently unusable after I added a telephoto converter lens.
The converter lens is attached to the original camera lense via an appropriate adaptor. It cannot however be removed as the camera believes it to be a lens cap. As a result, it continues to display the "Remove the lens cap" message and will not extend the original lens to allow the converter to be removed.
As the connector on the FZ18 is designed to rotate freely, no matter how much I unscrew the converter, it will not unscrew as the internal connector rotates along with it. This is tucked away inside the retracted lens.
If any one knows how I can get the original lens to extend, or alternatively to stop the converter being recognised as a lense cap, I would be very grateful.
I have the same camera, and had the same problem. Make sure the camera is switched off. Then take 2 hard pieces of plastic with sharp ends. Carefully try & jam the outer ring with one, and try turning the converter with the other. I used a mini screwdriver, and left some marks on my camera. Thats why I recomend using plastic of some kind.
When you use the converter, switch off the battery saver in the camera. That way the converter won't jam again, as the camera won't switch off automatically. There is also a programme in the menu that is used for converters and external lenses. It also prevents the lens from retracting completely.
Hope I have helped you.
