I think the problem is the t-con board, Part #
1-789-499-11, cost about $200.

This is the t-con err, you can check the LVDS cable connections, if no problem, replace the t-con board or panel.

Sony KDL-46s2010 4 red light blinks

I would suspect one or more of the miniature flourescent backlight lamps. One way to confirm this would be to power up the set with a grayscale image at 40 to 60 IRE. If one or more lamps is failing to light, a slightly darker horizontal area in the grayscale will give it away. Unfortunately, Sony will not supply any of the backlight components apart from a new LCD panel. Sorry.

The tv turns off automatically & standby light blinks 4 times

4 blinks is bad backlight inverter. Download the service manual here:

Four blinking red lights.

you can have the inverter board replaced...instead of the entire panel.
KDL 40S2010: inverter part # 178950032, you will also need 2 spacers..part # 289765511
you're looking @ 200-300$ for the inverter and 5-10$ a piece for the spacers.

KDL-46V2500: inverter part # A1251295B
you're looking @ around 500-600 $ for the part

Sony Bravia KDL-40S2000 40 inch

We have the same problem.. Checked the Sony site after a few clicks got to: http://www.iq.sony.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE/,/?St=966,E=0000000000761838071,K=1708,Sxi=1,Case=obj(460991),VARSET_OBJ=460991,VARSET_TSRC=results,UseTemplate=case.tem,VARSET_TOP=TRUE
We followed the 'simple' troubleshooting tips then called the service center. As mentioned above 4 blinks indicates a bad panel. The repairman that visited said that he is ordering a new power supply (much cheaper than the back panel) for their first try. I will post again when my set is back on.
