The best thing to do is contact amazon.com, place cursor on Your Account, click your account at top of list. on the right you should see Kindle Help Home; click it and it will bring up info about your kindle. On the far left in a box is CONTACT US. Fill out the form and choose how they should contact you. If you leave your phone they will call back and talk you through how to fix the problem. They may ask the return so they can work on it. Amazon help is always free. You only pay if you have to return it.
Make sure that the kindle is fully charged. Plug your kindle into the wall charger, a yellow light will light up. When the yellow light turns green, your kindle is fully charged. Then try turning on your device.
Usually amazon will repalce your kindle if the screen is cracked. Try calling amazon customer support. If not, you can pay amazon to fix the screen but the cost of a new screen is almost the same as buying a new kindle.
