When was the last time u replaced the projection bulb, yes it could be that simple the projection bulb it dead. The bulb last only about 1 or 2 years,by using the tv on about 4 or 5 hours a day.
No they are not, in fact that type of tv is being phased out. Basically this technology was more bang for your buck ( bigger screens for cheaper), unfortunately they work off of either halogen or led light bulbs which halogens dont last very long. Maybe 5000-7000 hours of use. New bulbs cost around $250, but need special care replacing it in the tv, alignment is crucial to tv clarity.
How old is the tv? Sounds like the bulb. Is there any kind of lamp light indicator blinking or on? Averager life of a bulb is a few years, but could very well be shortened. Also check any surge protectors you might have. Maybe you recently had a surge and it needs to be reset. Last but not least try recycling the power on the tv. Unplug for 10 seconds then plug back in. happens a lot with cable boxes, recievers, and tv's from time to time.
I have a Zenith (10 years old) not sure if is the same style; but I had the same problem. After being told to toss it, another shop "repaired power supply deflection parts and labor, part and major technical preform". Now have perfect picture and tv is like new. Cost was $295 for parts, labor and service call. It was in shop for a week. Hope this helps. Good luck
Yes you can take the back bottom of the tv off.You will see 3 bulbs 5or6" in diameter.take a very soft clean cloth spray cloth not bulbs.windex persoal cleaner for your glasses ect.wipe bulbs gently removing dust.Above thes lights are the mirror maybe 10"by12" clean that to spray cloth not mirror than wipe clean"Now get limber and try to reach the inside of the big screen and wipe completely.
