When turning on my Cannon mp610 I get error 6A00 - telling me to turn power on and off - if not consult manuel -- the print heads do not appear to be tracking as I cannot get them to come to the middle as if I need to change the ink -- any ideas? Thanks a million:)

Or the purge unit needs replacement.
Incidentally, the 6A00 error pertains to all Canon printers made in the last several years, its not just used in one model.

And it’s always a paper path error or purge unit.

The purge unit, called a spittoon assembly in an HP, Lexmark, and other inkjet printers, is where the print head assembly parks when not in use, also its other job is to clean and make sure the print head is clean and open for printing.

That is where you'll find the print head assembly parked on top of it.
It also has an electrical pump to milk the print heads and test for ink flow.

So clean all under where the heads are parked and on IP6600D models you can take out the heads just by clipping them out, and then clean well.

Also clean the purge unit out make sure all is clean.

I have a Canon MP610 printer and am getting an error message 6A00. I have tried moving the carriage but nothing seems to help. Any suggestions?

Hi,

1. Turn off the printer

2. Open cover

3. Print head and cartridges manually move to the left

4. on the extreme right is a white plastic cover is visible, which is attached to a spring

5. Clean the cover carefully (no chemicals, not wet) and gently push it back (it clicks) and remove any impurities -> the black collecting sponges for the storage of the print head can see

6. Print head and cartridges manually back to the right move

7. Turn on printer

6A00 error appears on the LCD. Have disconnected power and reconnected after a while but problem persists. Advice very much welcomed. Mike

Hi there

This answers with a titch more detail.
The 6A00 is a Canon generic code for paper path jam.

Some where in the paper path a sensor is activated indicating paper jam so the printer will give off a 6A00 code.
As a Canon tech, I usually find the code, almost 90% of the time, is related to the purge unit being jammed with something and not being able to move.
Moving the print head assembly will not clear a purge unit if its jammed with paper, paper clips, push pins, screws, cookie crisp, flower bud pods or the like.

And yes I have found all those things in a purge unit.
The offending item needs to be removed or the purge unit needs replacement.
