How do I get my brother printer to work. It is stuck on "idle" and yet other computers linked to it can print?
I've been out of the country for 4 weeks and been using another printer. just got back, all other PCs can print through the printer except my PC! It's driving me crazy. I 've disintalled and reinstalled the printer, there's nothing in the print line waiting....

It is a wireless printer so you have to set up the wifi connection with SSID and WPA password.
There is also an issue with this printer if you upgraded the the operating system on the computer.

Press menu then start mono (b/w) then 4x arrow-up-button. Machine will be in maintenance-mode: What error code does the display show off?

Check all other carts. It might be that one (or more) carts are empty, too. Thats why the machine refuses to work properly.
Unplug from power, wait two minutes and replug again.
If it doesnt come up correctly the maincircuit baord might be defective due to a defective electrical part.
Do leave the machine always on power connection. You can turn it off by pressing the stand-by-fax button, but you have to keep the machine with power supplied. Set date and time. The machine runs some automatic cleaning cyles every 20 days to keep the nozzles alive and that prevents the permanent ph from drying out!

Had the same problem with my mother's MFC and after 4 hours of troubleshooting I fixed it.
My mother's printer was networked through the router. Here was the solution.
1. Go to printers and faxes.
2. Right click and go to properties.
3. Go to ports (for some reason its shows Brother PC-Fax v2)
4. Add new port.
5. Enter the IP address (check the printer menu to find the IP Address ie. 192.168.002.002. To be safe enter 002 instead of 2.)
6. Restart the computer.
Wait a minute or 2 after restart and the printer should now be online.

If you have installed something since yesterday you might want to use system restore. the program might be causing the flaw. If not dont worry. You will need to uninstall the printer from your printer page and reinstall it. depending if it is a networked printer or a usb connected. If networked all you have to do is follow the install wizard. but if it is a usb you will have to go to the company's website and download a printer driver. after that it should work. dont forget to restart your computer. sometimes that can help too.
