I'm running windows 98 se and it wont startup normally because my system files are missing. Does anyone know where i can get code for the system files like config.sys, himem.sys, win.ini, winstart.bat, autoexec.bat, etc...????
wow, the 90's are a calling... sure their is a roumor of a usb pen driver for win 98' ....
Windows 98, especially in it's second edition (also known as Windows 98SE), handles USB fairly well, however there are no generic/universal mass storage device drivers preinstalled in the operating system, so you will need to install some additional drivers for it. Some manufacturers do however, provide the Windows 98 drivers on CD, others have them available to download, and others simply do not have them available at all!!!!!!!

himem.sys
i checked my memory and it shows that i have used all avilable xms memory and i have only 552k total memory free...i dont know if that helps or not???
Also, is there anything important on the drive, does it matter if you lose any files, if not, try re-installing windows.
Shouldn't have anything to do with the XMS memory.
Can you get into Dos prompt? If so, check to see if himem.sys exists in your C: drive.
if you in dos-prompt: type:
Dir himem.sys
does it show up?
What is the exact file it is having a problem with?
