You need to make changes in BIOS to boot from CD...
press Del / F1 / F2 /Esc key to get into BIOS immediatly after power on the PC....
once u get the BIOS screen...look for boot sequence in the BIOS options..screen one by one...depends on the type of BIOS your MB has....so i cant tell you where it will be....normaly it will be in CMOS setup option....
once you locate that yopu need to make changes using the UP/Down arrow keys and look for the option Boot from CD ROM....then press F10...or use Save and Exit...press Y for Yes to / and make changes to BIOS...
now it should boot from CD Rom....insert a bootable win XP CD disk....
note...some XP disks may not boot from CD rom as they are not bootable disks....so get a bootable WinXP disk.

When booting, the writing on the black screen should give you a couple of options akin to

Press F2 to edit boot options or
Press "Del" to enter setup. (bios)

You can use either, but you need to set your CD/DVD disk drive as the first boot option.

Wont boot from disc

When computer first starts up, you are usually given options. Most computers say hit f2 for setup before running the OS. Go into the setup menu and go to the boot sequence menu, and select boot from cd. Save and exit. Reboot with cd in and retry.

I want setup windows xp my ibm thinkpad t23 i can pot cd & restart press f12 but not start setup plz halp me haw can i setup windows xp my ibm thinkpad t23

If your trying to reinstall a new copy of Windows in your computer then first thing you need to do is change the Boot sequence of your computer so it will load the Windows CD you inserted then it will run the set up.

To change Boot sequence:
1. Go to BIOS - Press F1 or F2 (depends on model of your computer) immediately after you turn you computer on
2. Go to Boot Menu on the top of the window
3. Change your Boot priority - make sure your dvd drive is your first or primary boot.
4. Press F10 to save and exit.

Make sure you have your Windows CD inserted before pressing F10 coz your computer will restart and will loadautomatically load and run the Windows Setup

Note: If a message "Press any key to boot from CD" appear on a black screen press any key to start the set up

Your Feedback is greatly appreacited.

Hope this information will be helpful. Thank you for using FIXYA.

I cannot boot from the cd rom to do a fresh install of windows xp onto the laptop (Toshiba Satellite 1805-S274 PC Notebook)

Most computers need to have the boot order reset in the Bios to enable booting from cd. The following should be the correct way to access the Bios setup for this model.

Starting with the system powered off (not in sleep/suspend or hibernate mode)-Start with the system powered off. Press the power button and then immediately press and hold the Esc key while the system runs the POST (Power On Self Test). When the POST finishes, a prompt will appear telling you to press the F1 key to enter BIOS Setup. At that time, press the F1 key to access the BIOS Setup program.

Once in the Bios setup, change the boot order to boot first from cd, then save changes and exit. You should then be able to run the cd install.

Task manager in win xp keeps blinking, it will not closed, no matter what i push nothing, plus win xp keep freezing any solution how to fix this problem

VIrus infection?

to check and secure u need:

win-xp cd or other bootable win-cd, seperate up-to-date antivir software on cd or usb-stick,
your passwords

procedures:

boot system from cd/dvd (do not bother if screen resolution is different from usually),
exit windows-setup,

insert antivir-cd or stick, run full system scan.
found infections? remove/erase these files(antivir will do that for you)
if possible, back-up personal data (my folder, music, save games, etc.)
this data has to virchecked by another protected system before reinstallation !

boot from win-xp cd-rom, run setup until repair options are available,
repair your xp on harddisk(xp-will do that mostly), exit setup without installing win xp anew

boot system from hd, ignore error messages, run vircheck again.

if you're lucky, this will do, else lemmie know

Pavilion EZ4125 will not boot past the HP boot seletion screen.

Did it give you any blue screen error. Did you try booting from the CD. Its definitely something to do with the OS. Load the CD and run the setup and try to repair the OS.

I had to erase my hard drive and re-format it, now when trying to reinstall WINXP PRO, I can't boot from disk. Why is this. Please help

make sure to go into your bios by pressing as its prompted when it first boots up "press F2 for setup" or press "DEL" for setup. go to your boot options or boot sequence and change the boot order. for example if your "HDD" is 1 CD is 2 then change cd to 1 and disable HDD or change HDD to 2. save and restart then make sure the cd is in the drive and when it prompts "press any key to run setup" and press a random key and it will load into the setup of win xp

Compaq presario v5000

Boot into Setup and run the TOOLS / PRIMARY HDD TEST / SHORT TEST.

If it fails, try another HDD.

If OK, verify Boot Order is Floppy, CD-ROM, HDD. Exit Setup.

Print Table 1 Low Level Format instructions from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/106419

Boot with a DOS disk that contains Debug. Run the Table 1 script. Turn V5000 Off.

Boot with the HP Operating System CD. XP install should now proceed normally.

Good luck.
