Hi, I have a Macbook pro, the left and right arrow keys don't work , even after pressing them very hard. i've tried cleaning them but never helped, should i get a new keyboard?
First off, you need to determine whether the keys themselves are faulty, or whether you just have your system set up to ignore them.
Go to Apple Menu / System Preferences / Language & Text (this is on Snow Leopard, on Leopard I believe you have to look under International). Turn on "Keyboard and Character Viewer" and "Show input menu in menu bar." Now on the Menu bar, you will see an icon of a box with an asterisk in it. Choose "Show keyboard viewer." Now type the arrow keys and see if they blink on the keyboard viewer. If they do, there is nothing wrong with your keyboard; you just have somehow set those keys to have no effect (and figuring that out is another issue). If they do not blink, you have a hardware problem in your keyboard that will require keyboard replacement.
Services like laptopkey.com will NOT help you, as they sell only key CAPS, and the problem is in your key electronics.
A MacBook Pro keyboard is NOT a user-replaceable part.
In a MacBook Pro laptop the keyboard is attached to the bottom side to the palmrest assembly. In order to replace the keyboard you'll have to disassemble the laptop and remove the motherboard, optical drive, fan and other internal components. After that you'll be able to remove the keyboard (secured by over 60 screws). The keyboard itself can be purchased on the internet for about $30.
Here's how to replace keyboard in a MacBook Pro 13", 15" or 17" laptop.
Hey i don't think you should buy a new keyboard as it will cost you more bucks. Just order replacement keys to www.laptopkey.com they have a very good customer service plus simple video tutorials for guiding us about it. Check them out, you will succed in saving some bucks too :)

Hi, I also had this problem on macbook air 2011, I tried everything but all failed. However, once I used up all its battery and left it like that for 2 days. After that, everything turned back to normal, the shift key worked normally again. Hope this will help you.
Hi It seems to be there is pressed button and should be released. Try with the control keys like ( Ctrl, Alt, Shift, both right and left, and Fn key ).
Press these keys hardly ( not much ) to release them,
The first thing to try is this: It is a keyboard shortcut to shut down a mac laptop. Press the control key (ctrl) at the bottom and press the eject button at the same time (top button all the way to the right which looks like an arrow pointing up with a line under it). This should bring up a window asking if you want to restart, sleep, cancel or shut down. Click Yes to shutdown! If this does not work, here is the second option. Press the power button down on the upper right side, and just hold it down until the computor turns off. I have done this many times with my own computor when it has crashed with no ill effects, I have heard from Apple that it is not good for your computor and can cause problems, so I would only do this if the keyboard short cut does not work Good luck and if you find this helpful please comment!.
CD Stuck in Device First try the normal methods to remove the disc. Drag its icon to the Trash can in the Dock or select 'Eject' from the File menu. If you are running a virtual machine, e.g. VMFusion, ensure that the CD is disconnected from the virtual machine. This will sometimes allow the CD to now show up in Mac OS X. Shut down the computer and start up whilst holding down the mouse button. This may take some time, but keep your finger on the mouse button right up until the disc comes out or the log-in screen has appeared. If you have Toast Titanium installed on your computer, choose EJECT DISC from the menubar. Sometimes you can successfully use the eject disc button in iTunes even if the disc is not visible to the Finder Open Disk Utility and choose the disc you wish to eject in the left-hand pane, then click on the Eject button. Some Macintoshes have a paperclip hole that you can insert a straightened paperclip into, manually triggering the eject mechanism. Open Terminal and type "drutil tray eject" to eject the disc/tray, and "drutil tray close" to close the tray. Restart the computer while holding down Command-Option-O-F, to enter the Open Firmware prompt. Type "eject cd" without the quotes, and press return. The disk ought to eject. To start into OS X, type "mac-boot" without the quotes. Press return, and the computer will continue with the startup. (This will not work on an Intel Mac. There is no Open Firmware on Intel Macs. ) If your computer has an eject button on the keyboard, restart the computer holding down the Option key. When the startup disk selection screen appears, let go of the option key and press the keyboard's eject button.
Check the Speech settings in System Preferences. Your delete key may have been selected as a Listening Key. Disable Speakable Items. See if that helps.
