Hi i have dropped my d50 and when I try to take a photo, the shutter seems to open but not close. when i press the button again, the shutter closes but there is no image . Can you help me please
There is a motor/gear assembly inside the camera that moves the lens in and out and covers the lens when it is retracted. When it dropped, you most likely cracked or shifted something out of place. A broken tooth does not stop function, but shudders when it hits the gap. A shifted gear, slips and similarly may cause this effect. If it doesn't open the shudder, you get no picture.
You will need to open it up and attempt to repair the mechanics that drive the lens.

Sorry it's broken, but I hate getting 50% reviews. So let me see if I can be any more help with getting you running again.
I have a link here that will take you to a copy of the repair manual for the Nikon D50. In this manual you can find complete steps for standard inspection and
how to make an adjustment with your camera and it will also provide you with
a wiring diagram. When disassembling/(re)assembling, be sure to use the
conductive mat (J5033) and wrist strap (J5033-5) for static protection
of electrical parts.
But attached also, the dis-assembly and assembly section are provided with
full images, so you can understand easily and apply the steps provided
with your camera. The manual is in RAR format, but you can download PeaZip or WinRAR free to extract them.
Hope this is more helpful to you.
I don't know why they password protected it, but the password on the RAR is "manualspace.com"
