The Whirlpool washer error code F21 means the washing machine has a "water draining issue", meaning the drain pump itself, or the drain hose is clogged and the washer is having problems draining the water out. In other words, the washer is taking too long to drain the water out of the tub.

The F21 code is a ' drain issue ' --- if you remove the bottom panel from the machine you will see the water pump right there,, just in front of the pump you will see a clean out area,, unscrew counter clockwise and remove the catch screen,,, it most likely has a few things in it ,, clean out - re-install and start the cycle. and the F21 code should be gone AND washer is back up and running.

Hi, this advice is for Kenmore Elite and Whirlpool Duet model FRONT LOADERS displaying the “F21” error code.

“F21” is a Long Drain error. If the drain time exceeds 8 minutes this error code will be displayed. In addition, a “SUDS” error may also be displayed. This may be an indication of a drain pump problem and/or clog in the drain line. You will need to check the following:

1. First, attempt to unplug the washer for at LEAST 30 minutes to reset the Central Control Unit (CCU). Sometimes this is all that is required to correct momentary glitches with the unit. If the error code returns, proceed to step 2.
2. Check the drain hose to make sure it is not kinked or clogged.
3. Check the electrical connections to the pump and ensure the pump is running.
4. Remove the drain pump filter and check for foreign objects and/or debris.

If the above procedures do not correct the problem, it is recommended by the manufacturer to replace the drain pump.

If you are experiencing drainage issues and cleaning the pump does not work, you may have to replace the drain pump. You will usually experience an "F2", "SUD" or "F21" error code (depending on model number) for a drain blockage problem. Since this error code occurs when the drain cycle exceeds 8 minutes, if the pump motor or impeller becomes damaged, the pump will not pump at the required volume and the error code will continue to occur. YOUR "DRAIN MOTOR PUMP" is clogged with all that rubber particules, if your handy with tools , you can fix this one , open the washer , locate the MOTOR PUMP , (just follow where the drain hose is connected), remove , inspect and clean all the debris and lints and stuff collected , replaced and youre good to go , AJ

The "SUD" error is in direct relationship the other error code. "F21" is a Long Drain error. The following link explains:

If something is preventing water from pumping through the drain pump, you will often get a "SUD" error as air is developed in the pump. Make sure you double check all the drain lines as well.
