Our freezer will stop working and when the door is opened it is almost room temperature. Shut the door and the freezer will start working again at some later time. The result is that the ice in the ice maker is a frozen block. The water will not come out of the door as it is supposed to and neither will the ice. The refrigerator part works fine.
Theory of operation: Cold air is produced in the freezer section and is then circulated via a fan located in the freezer section. It sounds like you may have either an air leak from faulty door seals, ice dispenser door flap stuck in the open position, or the light staying on the door is closed.
A faulty compressor fan may also cause symptoms like that but you should hear the thermal cut out clicking off and on due overheating of the compressor.

SOURCE: Ice maker not working on Amana Side by Side refrigerator
On most Amana cabinets the water supply for the water and ice are from two solenoid valves. The water coming in goes to a double water solenoid valve splitting the incoming water so the fact there is water coming through as chilled water is not verifying that there is water supply for the ice maker. If technically minded you could locate this valve (normally at the back rhs ; compressor section) and try switching the supplies to check the solenoid valve. If you have water coming through then it may well be the icemaker module not asking for the water supply. As the simplest first step I would try defrosting the whole machine overnight and see if there is an improvement. I do know that checking the module is time expensive and would really need to be done by an engineer or alternatively replace this item. Hope this is of some help.

Mick...there may be any number of reasons for this. First, check for a bad door gasket. It must be clean and fit snugly around the unit. Use a piece of typing paper about 2 inches wide to pull through. It should pull with some resistance anywhere you try. If it is gappy, humidity can leak in.
Next, make sure the condenser coils are clean. Third, how cold is your freezer? Is should be about 5 degrees or so if it is kept closed for about 6 hours or more.
Is the ice maker clean and not overflowing? Many units can be removed and cleaned out.
You may have other issues...start with these.
