The click and hum your hearing is most likely the compressor trying to start. The most common problem is a bad start relay on the compressor. In rare cases the compressor may be bad. If you are mechanically inclined you can replace the relay yourself for less than 50 dollars. You will need model and serial number off of the unit and order the part by those numbers. if the compressor is bad you will need to hire a good service company

could be the fan - take back panel off and check it runs. could also be the compressor shutting down on overheat after running a while

Try unplugging it for 30 seconds and then plug it in again. It may reset itself that way.

Many times a freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many other things that can go wrong.
