GE top loading washer turns off by itself

GE washer will turn off in middle of cycle. It does it randomly at all times during a cycle. It seems that any type of movement will turn off washer. For example if the water pipes bang it turns off. If the load of laundry is uneven it turns off. If you bang down the lid it will turn off. I think it may be an electrical problem with the start button, but I don't want to put money for parts into it if I don't have to. It is a 5 year old machine and is used for at least 2-3 loads of laundry a day.

    Did you ever find a solution to your washer problem? I have a 7 year-old top load GE WSERE526 doing the same thing. It does seem like it's an electrical problem since all lights on the control panel go off when the washer randomly shuts off.

Since the motor turns regadless of the direction it turns itself is good and theirfore the problem with your washer i believe is going to be the control board,it is what tells the motor what direction and what speed to turn.

The "Metallic banging/clicking" sound you hear is the Shifter mechanism engaging or disengaging.
The drive system will engage at the start of the Agitate Cycle and disengage when the Agitate Cycle is complete. This occurs multiple times during the wash. GE claims this is a normal sound and should not be concerned about it. It turns on and fills by itself. sometimes it
a bad water valve could cause this / if it leaking through . when the tub is full it will start itself and cycle . / also the control if bad would do this .. mm

GE washer WJSR4160G0WW agitation is way too fast & hard
check the 4 rubber cords at the top of the tub. If the washer has been moved they may need to be adjusted, you can see them by looking between the top of the tub and the top cover. You can turn them with your hand, and you may need to tighten them after.

Washer turns on by itself. (Once in the middle of the night)
i have the whirlpool top loader also. Was not quiet a year old, starts running at random by itself. They sent the repair man out got lectured that it was my fault (too much soap, washer is in basement, I need to call an electrician to check the wiring). Now it drips water into the inside of the washer.
I can see it will eventually be cheaper to replace than call the repairman back.... Won't be a Whirlpool

you need to have a tech out to look at it it sounds like the motor isnt going into high spin and /or cutting out on over load this is a problem with the g/e's there is no filter on this machine all the lint is flushed down the drain
