Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KV-27FS320 27" TV Logo
Anonymous Posted on May 14, 2010

My sony wega kv-ha21m80 was showing black screen with osd and sound was ok. repairing with the help of service manual i traced that pin 22 of jungle ic with was marked as ABL was delivering less voltage than described in the service manual and R out B out and G out pins were also less voltage. when i opened the ABL pin, the tv is now showing normal screen. now i am using with ABL pin disconnected. is it ok. and what can be the probable fault.

Thanks all for the help. my problem is solved now. the problem was that flyback pin no. 11 to jungle ic pin no. 22 print which is named as ABL auto bright limiter was not showing correct voltage. when i checked all the components in line a resistor of 15 k value was found more than 2000 k resistance. after replacing the resistor, my problem is solved. Thanks again for your valuable help.

ONE: Unplug it for at least 4 hours. That is what we call a hard reset.

TWO: If the hard reset does not help, then it will need further diagnostics.

The following bulletin may be of help in your learning about what is going on. Please refer to it below. Then let me know if you need further assistance.

Sony Blinking Codes
Many of the later model Sony TV's have a built in Self- Diagnosis function. If
the timer/standby indicator is blinking, this could be an indication of the
problem with the unit. The diagnostic blinking will occur automatically with no
action required by you to engage it.
The timing of the blinking you see would be as follows: two to eight blinks
(depending on the fault) about a third of a second apart, then pauses for 3
seconds, then the two to eight blinks about a third of a second apart again.
Here is a list of the problems that might have occurred indicated by the
number of blinks. The words in parentheses are those which you will see for
each of these faults on a diagnosis screen described later in this article.
Unit is dead and there are no blinks---Problem in the standby power
section. Might check fuse, R607, Q601, IC601, R612 and VDR601 (should
show open)
Continuous Blink Once A Second, No Pausing As Discussed Above---
No reply from the jungle IC301 (data bus is busy, shorted to ground or held
high), IK video path is defective.
ONE Blink--- not used for the self-diagnosis
TWO Blinks---B+ over current protection (OCP) , unit goes to the standby
mode then displays the 2 blink fault. Could be a short in the power supply of
any of the circuits.
THREE Blinks---B+ over voltage protection (OVP), unit goes to the standby
mode then displays the 3 blink fault. This is also a problem in the power
supply circuit, check T603 and R672.
FOUR Blinks---No Vert. Deflection (V STOP), Screen goes to a single
horizontal line then the video signal muted. Check IC1509, Q1505
FIVE Blinks---AKB circuit (AKB), the timer/standby indicator blinks for about
30 seconds then goes to the self-diagnosis function. Something is wrong with
the video. Check video out, Q705, 732, 761 and other components on the C
board, also check Q218, 219, 220 on the A board. Also unit be in IK blanking,
try turning up screen slightly.
SIX Blinks---No Horizontal (H STOP), no raster, goes to the blinking selfdiagnosis
function immediately. Check C515 & 516 and the jungle IC, IC206.
SEVEN Blinks---High voltage shutdown. The high voltage has exceeded 33k
and the unit goes immediately into safety shutdown. Check power supply
regulation and horizontal circuits.
EIGHT Blinks---Problem with the audio (AUDIO), unit goes to standby and
blinks the self-diagnosis code. Check IC406 audio amp, PS401 and 402.
Intermittent problems ?? This is a great feature. You can also bring up
these fault codes ON-SCREEN to see a list of the problem numbers with the
abbreviation of the problem and the number of times this problem has
occurred. This is slightly different than entering the service mode. To see the
diagnostic screen, Press the following buttons:
Display, Channel, 5, Vol Minus, ( Not plus ) then Power. This brings up
a screen with a list of the problems and number of times they have occurred.
Each of the problem names is abbreviated as, "OCP", "OVP", "V STOP", ETC.
We have repeated them in parentheses in the text for the "Blinks" described
above so you can correlate between the diagnostic screen and the blink
codes.
So, now that you know about these self-diagnostics, how do you use them?
Say that you have a set with a black screen. You see that the LED is blinking
4 times....This would tell you that you have no vertical and that is why the
video is muted. If it was blinking 6 times, you would know that you have a
horizontal fault.
It's not a sure cure, but it's a little better than a poke in the eye with a sharp
stick.
IMPORTANT: after you repair the unit, PLEASE clear the values on this
diagnostic screen. These codes do not reset themselves after the fault is
corrected, so if you don't clear them, you'll be seeing "old" fault codes the
next time you enter this screen.
Clearing is done by going into the service mode ( display, channel, 5,
volume plus, then power ) then press 8 and Enter, which of course returns
everything to the factory preset condition.

I am experiencing a distortion noise in my sony ha21m80 when i connect a dvd or receiver in the av input

Hi,
Difficult to tell without listening to it, but 2 things spring to mind.

Is the screening on the audio input cable OK?

Is the audio level going into the TV too high and thus overloading the input circuit?

Hope this helps,
Brian.

Sony tv black screen

Repairing a TV set is actually a skilled work. If you're not sound in electronics, make sure, that you can't do it; especially to Sony sets. If the set switches ON; with audio output OK, and there is no Video, surely the fault should be with its horizontal scan output section circuit. Check that circuit for fault. I THINK YOU MEAN RETRACE LINE. if your tv has retrace line the video amp circuit should be checked its a transistor or in other cases its a IC replace either of them.if its an transistor on circuit voltage measurements shoutld be 2.4 volts from the emitter amd 2.8 volts on the base.can also be a faulty inductor..good luck.if you are not a tech have a tech repair your tv.

I have a 10 yr old Sony FD Trinitron WEGA 32" Flat

Hello jorge and welcome to FixYa. With your particular model of television six blinks mean a Horizontal Drive Failure has occurred. If you have any television repair experience you could try checking the jungle for loose or possibly bad soldering. In some case the jungle IC was found to be defective on this model as well. You should also inspect the horizontal drive transformer windings if at all possible. If you are unable to repair this yourself I would personally say to you no it is not worth the cost to repair it as purchasing a new television would probaly be a more prudent decision. I hope you found this helpful and thank you for visiting FixYa.

Sony trinitron

check the heater as your tv is ON, there must be a yellow light at the rear of the CRT tube. If the heater is ok then check the IC jungle side. resoldering the leads sometimes will solve. If not refer to your local Tech.

TV SONY KV-HA21M80 BG2T

Thanks for reply and nice to know that you are in Algeria.

You need to pay attention on Screen Volts as wrong G2 (screen volts) can be cause of 4 times blinks as you already replaced vertical out put IC.

You can download service manual of KV-HA21M80 from HERE and it is free. Download all 3 parts of file and use WinRaR to unzip it. You will have complete manual in pdf format.

Good luck.

Half Picture

I have seen this caused by 2 different problems. The vertical output IC could be bad but it is usually the CXA jungle IC that fails to cause this. Either way the set should be serviced by someone experienced in repairing Sony TV's.
