As per symptoms that said in question, new tv would be better as this plasma has already served you since 5 years and repair cost could be more then its worth.

yes, it can be fixed. I don't think its something you can fix yourself because of the level of fault of the TV, you will be needing the help of a Tech.
Now, you need to consider the cost of fixing with the cost of getting a new TV. If the cost of repair is close or up to the amount of getting another one, I would advice that you look forward to a new TV.
But if the cost of repairs is not up to the price of getting another TV, you can simply go ahead for the repairs.

5yr old 42 Inch Philips Plazma TV has loud buzzing noise and picture is distorted. Started with half screen now the whole screen is all red and green distortion.Also the TV became very hot. After leaving it shut off for about an hour now there is not picture just flashes of red and green distortion on the screen. Can this be fixed or should I start looking for a new one?
