Fastora NAS-104WR Hi there, FYI my project site is using a Fastora NAS-104WR. This NVR is running 24/7 with plenty of moving part and generate a significant amount of heat within, that make these type of equipment more prone to wear and tear after a certain duration of use. This equipment normally failed on the harddisk due to the nature of the operation where unlike conventional PC, the NVR run 24/7 and data is being read and write during the entire period of time. This explanation was given by my sub-contractor. It make sense for me. However, i still concern as a frequent fail is on the harddisk itself. I was asking them just to have an extra harddisk as a backup failure. But, according to them it won't work like that because the time consume is our consern. They suggested to have an extra NVR set as a backup failover. As they said, the recording system is equip with failover funtionallity in which it can automatically switch the recording to a spare NVR in the network itf it detect an NVR has failed. I would like to know if I can only buy an extra harddisk to solve this problem or was it relevant to buy an extra NVR as a backup.Tq.

It all depends on how mission critical this NVR is, (and how much money you have to spend)

A good rule of thumb is the more redundancy the better, so in theory, if you have the money, you should buy the second NVR, however if you cant afford an entire second unit, you should look at doing hard drive backups of that unit.

If you have any more question, please let me know!

Thanks,
Mike

SOURCE: Can't assign ip configuration to NAS 208

Run Fastora Assist, it should detect your NAS even if no IP address is assigned to the NIC(s). Make sure to connect all NIC(s).

SOURCE: My Nas Fastora T4

I had the same problem after changing the disk setup from RAID-0 to RAID-5.

If you remove some of the harddisks (keep at least one) before booting, the system comes up again and is reachable for config changes.

I also had problems then with LAN1 card (did not get a ip address from DHCP anymore, only 0.0.0.0).
So I connected the Fastora NAS to LAN2. I was very surprised that the fastora filer tool did find the Fastora NAS connected with LAN2 configured to a wrong fixed IP-address that wouldn't work in my network. Fastora filer was able to remote change the IP-Settings for LAN2 card and now all works fine!

Hope this helps any other Fastora NAS user.

Do I need to power down?

No. Hard rives are for the most part the only moving part on a computer. Failures occur randomly just as flat tires on cars occur randomly. If the drive is going to fail it is normally due to wear or factory defect.

Access to the NAS-T2 from Linux

Quick tip: when accessing the NAS-T2 from Linux, mount any NAS-T2 shares using smbfs, not cifs.

More detail: This tip presumes you're familiar with mounting filesystems in Linux and are trying to mount an NAS-T2 share in Linux. The older smbfs filesystem type for mounting Windows shares is deprecated in favor of the newer cifs filesystem type. However, the NAS-T2 is built on some older flavor of Windows and behaves very oddly when mounted as a cifs filesystem. Changing back to the older smbfs filesystem type solved all my problems.

I picked up a Fastora NAS-T4, but the previous owner no longer recalls the root password on the device. Is there anyway to reset the device to factory defaults? I see no 'reset' buttons available on it.

Turn off the NAS.
Press AND HOLD power button for about 30 secs.
That will force a hard reset and reset the unit to factory defaults. You will lose all data on drives that are plugged in at the moment. If they are in an ejected state, it may save your data, but I have not tried that.

Reading T4 Device

Did you try to boot the system without all the harddisks inside (keep at least one).
This helped me to bring up the NAS-T4 up again.

Can't assign ip configuration to NAS 208

Probably the NAS got the same IP address of the router/switch. Something like 192.168.1.1. Try changing your router default IP address to 192.168.1.3. Look for the NAS now.
