You need to input the radio code to get it to play. Take it to the dealership parts counter and they can get it for free. It has a theft lock so if the battery is disconnected you need to input the code.
To unlock your VW factory radio from "SAFE" mode, you will need to enter the radio code. Typically, the code is written on a radio card included with the documentation for the vehicle when the car is first sold.
If you don't have the code, or have lost it, you can retrieve it by visiting your VW dealer. You will need the car's VIN number and the serial number of the radio (located on the body of the radio).
The procedure to enter the code is as follows:
Press the "MODE" and "SCAN" buttons simultaneously and hold
them until "1000" appears on the radio display. Release the buttons as
soon as this number appears.
Refer to your Radio Card and use the station preset buttons ("1",
"2", "3" and "4") to input the code. Press the "1" button repeatedly to input the
first digit, the "2" button to input the second digit, etc.
Press and hold the "MODE" and "SCAN" buttons simultaneously until "SAFE" appears again. Release, and the radio should be unlocked.
Do not enter the wrong code more than three times, or the radio will lock itself. Note the dealer can also enter the code for you (they may charge a small fee).
Fixya doesn't have access the radio lock codes for your car, each is unique and it is by car VIN and car radio serial number. Please see the local Chrysler dealer for help with getting your unique code and inputting it.
You have to get the number from a small white sticker located under the left false wood trim next to the radio, and call your local acura dealership and tell them the situation and give them the number and they will provide you with your code.
note: the code is inputed useing the preset keys numbers and is five numbers long, you get ten chances to input the code correctly and then it will lock you out. you must leave the radio on for an hour to be able to input the code again.
try disconnect stereo totally, then reconnect and put in right code, dealers usually store this information if it was put in by a dealer, and sometimes the code is on the bottom/back of the stereo.
If this stereo is a clarion and original equipment and uses a a four digit code. First thing you do is with the power on to the radio, push and hold the band button for a few seconds until you see the word "code" on the radio display. Input the code and radio should work. If that doesn't work, then if you have tried to input a wrong code several times then radio will lock out. So what you need to do is
the radio has to be on for one hour uninterrupted, then you can do the band button procedure , code input again and hopefully the radio goes on. Hopefully this helps. Please advise results
